- Repairing a John Deere lawn tractor with a Tuff Torq hydrostatic gearbox.
The gearbox is a K61 with an oil leak from the centre bolt. This means splitting the trans axle in half to reseal it.
Thanks for the video...My gearbox started leaking last year. I could not isolate exactly where the leak was. After watching your video I though why not try what you show here. What have I got o lose? The hardest part of the whole procedure is cleaning the old gasket material off.... Got it back together, mowed my lawn, and so far no leaks! Maybe I can get one more year of mowing ouit of my old JD. so I say thank-you
A suggestion. After you apply the sealant smear it with your finger. You can make a nice even layer around the sealing surface and it's easy to see if you're using too much or not enough. I'm a mechanic and I've actually had multiple experiences where excess sealant got where it shouldn't have been and caused a failure (usually to oil or coolant passages..)
Did you clean the filter and magnets?
Gr8 job i could watch these for hours
I have the same transmission. It loses power after a few minutes of driving. I just opened the lid. Where could be the potential cause?
Is this gardenmechanic who quit 3 years ago
Is this your mower
That’s daggerwin
Was this a diesel mower as I'm looking for a new diesel mower that is cheap?
Joel Gennard diesel is more expencive if you mow one time a week but lasts fors years bur if you are mowing 40 hours a week diesel is cheaper or you must have a big garden that takes 3 4 hours of mowing diesel is ok
say tuff torq 5x fast
I thought that thumbnail looked familiar. I was looking at the inside of a Tuff Torq K46 today.
Great video, thanks so much! Greetings from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA!
*GREAT TIP*
You could use a vaccum cleaner while removing the gasket, to minimize gasket falling into the gearbox :-)
I have a jd 930m it's has a small leak on the right side I changes the oil ring on the filter cap didn't help looks like it was coming from their or around the bottom. you you have any suggestions on may to find where it's leaking? I just keep a eye on it its not bad but would like to know
The John Deere mechanic told me that the box needed 10W30 oil but, I've seen some channels that changed it for 20W50. I wonder if its a good idea IF you ONLY use your machine in summer.
Did this repair today on a tuff torq, but in some ones driveway haha much more difficult, traveling mechanic. Awesome video, but should you really be ratchetting the torque wrench like that?
Is it your mower
how long does it take for sealent to dry?
Sometimes only 1 hour however I ALWAYS leave these gearboxes 24hrs before filling with oil
Keep up good vids
Would look like to me that dagger may be doing a few repairs for other people's lawn mowers. Good move if true.
Do up old ford 3600 or 4600 or a super/standerd dexat please like if you agree
