I saw this going on 66 coming from md going to fair oaks... grew up in this area and everything changing. This is pretty cool... think of moving back...

I watched the construction of the widening of 66 closely in that area. Drove by every night. Lots of electrical infrastructure. But where does it go? What does it serve? Great place for a checkpoint when martial law is declared one day. Lots of road projects magically went full throttle during covid. Including 5g towers.

Fantastic. Would love to see bike trails built along freeways all over the country. Korea has some of these, running down the center median. Great for commuters and cross-country tourers. Sure, a railtrail through the forest is better, but anything that adds to bike infrastructure is a win.
This route will look far better in a few years as the vegetation grows.

it comes to a screeching halt at nutley road/vienna metro station, you have to take a detour on the side streets to get back on the trail

I rode the entirety of the new trail from west to east where it diverts over to the w&od the other day. I'm so happy this exists. Now they just need to finish the interchange at route 50. I actually went through all the tunnels for that but i had to kind of sneak into it because there isnt an official way to get back on the trail from Random Hills Road yet. But this enables me to ride from my house in Chantilly all the way into DC without ever feeling like im forced to ride somewhere unsafe.

Is the section connecting Random Hills to the eastern part of the trail finished?

When will this thing be complete? It has a big gap near 50 where it doesn’t connect to itself.

Who on earth wants to walk on concrete, surrounded by exhaust, noise, no green or wildlife? Who designed this horror?

You'd be surprised what people who are from that area are okay with. It's crazy

It's not meant to be a pleasant nature walking trail. It's designed for people who want to commute via bike.

@@AndrewPardothat is a terrible way to look at it. The more pleasant you make biking infrastructure the more people will use it. Trees and quiet are a huge part of that.

@@deathdog7161 I've watched the decimation of all flora on both sides of 66. The last few years have been like a war zone. Just atrocious!
