Great video. I always wondered how the old guy at the pawn shop was getting results when he was testing pieces. He explained it once...you have just done a more excellent version. Thank you
It's called a scratching stone/pad/block. I believe it's some type of black porcelain, or something similar. It's used for removing small amounts of metal off of your jewelry, so the jewelry doesn't get damaged by the acid. Realistically though, you can use white porcelain as well, or any abrasive surface. This came in my kit, so it's what I use.
Hi, I just added some links to the exact set I use in this video. I have the full set (gold, silver, and platinum) and box, but also included the acid test kit that's only for gold. I hope the video was able to help you out. Thanks for watching!
You are my go-to for metals testing. Your instructions is so clear and precise, you can't help but learn how to do these tests! Thank you!

Very good morning brother, thankyou very much for your good explanation, God bless you with.all blessings
Very useful, thanks! How does one test for 9 carat? That comes up sometimes and I can't find a test kit for it! Thanks.
What would have happened if you would have used the 10 karat acid on the 14 karat gold?
Super interesting!
What is that black colour piece

Is it normal if it changes just a little bit?
Hi, sorry for the late reply. If it changes just a little bit, that would likely mean it's a slightly lower carat than the acid you are using.
