  • Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Anger has the power to disintegrate our health, our communities, and our individual wisdom. However, anger can be a good thing; it is an attribute of God and of anyone who loves. The key to healing anger is to find out what you truly love and why your anger is out of control.

    For people who've experienced abuse in Christian homes it's often coupled with a moral injunction to never be angry about being mistreated. It becomes difficult to heal when we obediently over-manage our own reactive emotions (as fault-worthy and immoral) and focus on our own reactions as the ultimate culprit. We need messages like this about anger to have a chance at healing when covert abusers have so adeptly hijacked scriptural truth to try to box in sensitive and conscientious people as either deserving of or at fault for their own abuse.

    I’m hurting so over the rage of someone I love but this helped me. Thank you so much. Please pray for my broken heart. God has given me exodus 14:-14 to be still and to bless. I’m so tempted to run but I know God doesn’t want that. I want to bless, to forgive as Jesus would, to be humble and ask God to reveal my sin. I don’t want to feel like a failure from hearing the cruel words.

    I lived with a verbally & emotionally abusive wife for 23 years. I absorbed so much of her anger that I'm still recovering from it... and it messed me up. My oldest son wants nothing to do with her. Tim described her many times in this sermon. Of course I was not without fault. I have no idea what it's going to take to break her of her pride. She's in God's hands now. I pray she admits her destructive ways to her sons. So that they can have a relationship with their mom again. As my middle son once said to me... "Dad, let her go ruin someone else life."

      Ray A my parents both have personality disorders (narcissism) they were verbally abusive and neglectful. I think when Tim was talking about the teenager going off and being hateful is really what the narcissistic adult does, because they are emotionally immature which is putting it mildly. Boundaries are needed big time with those people

    James 1:19-21
    My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

    Wow.... What a brilliant expisition on anger. Both biblically, medically and psychologically 😵🤯 Got me reflecting and thinking deeply about things.
    Yes we need to look beneath the anger to discover what under it we love and are protecting. Whether that's good things like the Gospel, the poor, the abused, the sick, our loved ones or our health. Or its bad things like our ego, pride, shame, addictions, or others injustice, idols etc.

    • @annbrucepineda8093
      @annbrucepineda8093 4 года назад +1

      Nick Voutsas I think the pastor said “no anger” is not what God expects of us, either. God modeled that “slow anger” with the Israelites. They sinned; there were consequences; He forgave them; they repented for awhile; they sinned again; there were worse consequences; they prayed and repented and did better; God forgave them and blessed them; they sinned again and turned their backs on God, etc. Check though to see how long God was able to stay silent before He did the unimaginable. He sent His only begotten Son to die for us and we are no longer slaves to sin unless we choose to be.

      Jesus can help you with His help not in your own strength. Surrending the pain and the hurt is hard and you might take it back keep handing it over to Him. He says in his word....Who ever the son sets free shall be free indeed. 🙏🙏 Let Him carry your burden. Thanks for sharing.

      See video of Zach Williams in Harding Prison singing his song, “No Longer a Slave”. Latin Americans have commercialized it in the song “Yo Soy Hijo de Dios” without even mentioning Zach’s name and have filled auditoriums; but seeing those men in Harding Prison raise their hands, sing to their Lord, and let you know that they know they are sons of God.... Wow! One simple country boy in jeans with a few friends who accompany him has such a close relationship with his Lord to make millions cry and give up our chains.

      @Son of Man 333 you know I hope you are wrong. I have considered that and many people probably in the United States don't realize that we are the rich people of the world. This is why Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. Thanks for your response, I am a little bit out of my depression , but not all the way, the word of God is what is helping me. Do you know by experience?

    • @mr.e1220
      @mr.e1220 4 года назад +1

      @Son of Man 333 I listen to the video. I don't think anything is wrong with having money or even being rich. The problem is when you love those things and Trust in them. I learned my lesson. By the way, I think most of that stuff in Matthew 24 was fulfilled already. Jesus was talking to that generation. A lot of things that Jesus said were to the Israelites and the scattered tribes of Israel, but I think it is normal to be upset if you get robbed and lose financially. It is all a learning process. I have been poor and I have been rich. People need to be content in any situation.

      Mary Villasenor Where did he bring up race? What did he say? I was listening but also reading the comments and trying to respond to a few so I must have missed it. I’ve listened to many of his sermons and have never thought of Timothy Keller as a racist. I heard Dr. King speech in the church and marched with him in Memphis right before he died but I’m pretty sure he would not approve of the Black Lives Matter movement.
