I know God led me to this sermon. I needed this surgical healing. Pastor Keller described me as the woman that loved her son too much and also the idiocy of my son in such clear detail. I shall follow his teachings...I'm so grateful to God for him.
For people who've experienced abuse in Christian homes it's often coupled with a moral injunction to never be angry about being mistreated. It becomes difficult to heal when we obediently over-manage our own reactive emotions (as fault-worthy and immoral) and focus on our own reactions as the ultimate culprit. We need messages like this about anger to have a chance at healing when covert abusers have so adeptly hijacked scriptural truth to try to box in sensitive and conscientious people as either deserving of or at fault for their own abuse.
You all probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any help you can offer me!
I’m hurting so over the rage of someone I love but this helped me. Thank you so much. Please pray for my broken heart. God has given me exodus 14:-14 to be still and to bless. I’m so tempted to run but I know God doesn’t want that. I want to bless, to forgive as Jesus would, to be humble and ask God to reveal my sin. I don’t want to feel like a failure from hearing the cruel words.
I lived with a verbally & emotionally abusive wife for 23 years. I absorbed so much of her anger that I'm still recovering from it... and it messed me up. My oldest son wants nothing to do with her. Tim described her many times in this sermon. Of course I was not without fault. I have no idea what it's going to take to break her of her pride. She's in God's hands now. I pray she admits her destructive ways to her sons. So that they can have a relationship with their mom again. As my middle son once said to me... "Dad, let her go ruin someone else life."
Ray A my parents both have personality disorders (narcissism) they were verbally abusive and neglectful. I think when Tim was talking about the teenager going off and being hateful is really what the narcissistic adult does, because they are emotionally immature which is putting it mildly. Boundaries are needed big time with those people
James 1:19-21 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
I really feel blessed to listen to individual pastors that have wisely taught the word of God so that it produces healing to the wounded areas of my soul and then I can share my life with others
Wow.... What a brilliant expisition on anger. Both biblically, medically and psychologically 😵🤯 Got me reflecting and thinking deeply about things. Yes we need to look beneath the anger to discover what under it we love and are protecting. Whether that's good things like the Gospel, the poor, the abused, the sick, our loved ones or our health. Or its bad things like our ego, pride, shame, addictions, or others injustice, idols etc.
This time, struck by 26: - 28:, what is the thing i want most, that i'm angry because I'm deprived of it? Being righteous on my own, by my own strength.
35: if this is possible - and it is, by examples it's proven - then i can breathe and live and love. Martin Luther King 'Life is a matter of getting even, ...of dog eat dog.... We are going to follow another way.... While abhoring segregation, we will love the segregationist.... To our most bitter opponents we say we will love you.'
Nick Voutsas I think the pastor said “no anger” is not what God expects of us, either. God modeled that “slow anger” with the Israelites. They sinned; there were consequences; He forgave them; they repented for awhile; they sinned again; there were worse consequences; they prayed and repented and did better; God forgave them and blessed them; they sinned again and turned their backs on God, etc. Check though to see how long God was able to stay silent before He did the unimaginable. He sent His only begotten Son to die for us and we are no longer slaves to sin unless we choose to be.
I've been angry my hole life due to my mother destroying me as a young child she spent her entire life abusing me ridiculing me having me in tears constantly the one who was meant to lift me with her words and love me was my bully I'm still dealing with her betrayel to this day with a deep hurt I can't cope with cause her actions destroyed every area of my life
Jesus can help you with His help not in your own strength. Surrending the pain and the hurt is hard and you might take it back keep handing it over to Him. He says in his word....Who ever the son sets free shall be free indeed. 🙏🙏 Let Him carry your burden. Thanks for sharing.
See video of Zach Williams in Harding Prison singing his song, “No Longer a Slave”. Latin Americans have commercialized it in the song “Yo Soy Hijo de Dios” without even mentioning Zach’s name and have filled auditoriums; but seeing those men in Harding Prison raise their hands, sing to their Lord, and let you know that they know they are sons of God.... Wow! One simple country boy in jeans with a few friends who accompany him has such a close relationship with his Lord to make millions cry and give up our chains.
One of the books we were assigned in professional development while I was teaching is Dr. Haim G. Ginott’s “Teacher and Child: A Book for Parents and Teachers”. I thought he was the one to first say, “I’m OK; you’re OK!” but I can’t find a reference to it in my yellow-paged copy.
I am angry and depressed because God took away my investment properties. This allowed me to be financially free. Took 15 years. Now they are gone! Hate life now
Praise God the financial burden is lifted. Praise in the good and the bad times. He works out all things out for good for those that are called according to His purpose.
@Son of Man 333 you know I hope you are wrong. I have considered that and many people probably in the United States don't realize that we are the rich people of the world. This is why Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. Thanks for your response, I am a little bit out of my depression , but not all the way, the word of God is what is helping me. Do you know by experience?
@Son of Man 333 I listen to the video. I don't think anything is wrong with having money or even being rich. The problem is when you love those things and Trust in them. I learned my lesson. By the way, I think most of that stuff in Matthew 24 was fulfilled already. Jesus was talking to that generation. A lot of things that Jesus said were to the Israelites and the scattered tribes of Israel, but I think it is normal to be upset if you get robbed and lose financially. It is all a learning process. I have been poor and I have been rich. People need to be content in any situation.
Mary Villasenor Where did he bring up race? What did he say? I was listening but also reading the comments and trying to respond to a few so I must have missed it. I’ve listened to many of his sermons and have never thought of Timothy Keller as a racist. I heard Dr. King speech in the church and marched with him in Memphis right before he died but I’m pretty sure he would not approve of the Black Lives Matter movement.
you may be gone , Pastor Tim , but your sermons still resonate ... you are deeply missed ...
This might be the single greatest sermon on anger I have ever heard.
... it is a sin to never get angry... O God forgive me... I have always been a 'people pleaser' , afraid of any confrontation...
I know God led me to this sermon. I needed this surgical healing. Pastor Keller described me as the woman that loved her son too much and also the idiocy of my son in such clear detail. I shall follow his teachings...I'm so grateful to God for him.

Overcome evil with good.
This series on the psalms and proverbs is maturing me in my holy faith. Thank you Pastor Keller

As a child.

Wow. What a sermon. Once again, Keller nails it. Oh if only I could live on millionth closer to that of Christ.
One of the best sermons on anger. Wow. A must share for any that are suffering from anger's power.

Thank you so much for putting this series together. 14 minutes in and it is already profound.

Aca has been a great fellowship to help me with growing up under angry parents
I'm NOT angry damit :)
Great message. Great speaker. A message on anger i need to keep working on .. Now.
So very helpful.
Anger is unjust destruction or injustice against something or someone we love. So powerful

Pray for her and let yourself out of the cage.
Sometimes it’s the parent not the kid who has disordered rage
Yup, that's my life!
Like when you're Dad says"Get the chip off of your shoulder", when he is the one who put it there.
Wow. Amen 🙏🏼
17:00 word
32:00 -- wow. "How to save the angry kid." And then, we're the angry kid. Whoah.
loving anger--I should want to destroy the idiocy not the person
🤣 my brother sent me this....😆
Where can we find the full text of Martin Luther King’s sermon?

I am angry and depressed because God took away my investment properties. This allowed me to be financially free. Took 15 years. Now they are gone! Hate life now
God was being merciful to you taking those things away, showing you that those things were your god
Mr. C Im so sorry about your loss. May He restore to you that which brings joy to your heart.

Loved it upon till he brought up race. Will not listen again. So disappointed.
Why?
Yeah, why?
I don’t see a problem with that example. Otherwise you would be a racist
Why not? Racism happens. It happened in history. He SHOULD use it as an example. Martin Luther King Jr. taught peace and forgiveness.
