One of the best opening guitar riffs ever. And Steve Winwood is a masterpiece all of his own...perfection

The singer Steve Winwood was also fronted the band Traffic. You would love "Dear Mr. Fantasy" with Steve Winwood on vocal and guitar.

Just the best of the best. Eric Clapton is one of my favorite guitarists and Steve Winwood is the voice of that era. Perfection.

Gorgeous song. Lyrics, vocals and instruments. Smiling at you at 3 am ...in my thoughts of great music from yesteryears. You would have loved these live concerts in the 70's. Magic. So happy you found this greatness.

Yep! I grew up during this era. Imagine no internet, no you tube, facebook, cell phones and cable/sat tv. Ok! We had music. It was like thousands of darts coming at you. Great music monthly even weekly endlessly, just top notch.

Steve Winwood(singer/keyboards), for Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and a great solo career. A helluva entertainer.

The drums are by the late great Ginger Baker - one of the best drummers of our time - if not the greatest crossover drummer from Jazz to Prog/Blues rock of the 20th Century Eric and Stevie are also in a class of their own. I love the phased section in "I had to cry today" on my Mitchel micro deck through dual NAD amps and eight speakers in my log cabin.

The Stevie Winwood fireside version he posted is so dang great! Here's something nobody will mention - Ginger Baker played with Fela Kuti - the Bob Marley of Afro Beat. Check out Water No Get Enemy. His son Femi Kuti does a mean version too - saw him live in SOCAL

Watch the live video of Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood live from Madison Square Garden 2004, they do an incredible electric version of this song and the band is amazing. They finally played together again 35 years after Blind Faith , the whole concert is great.

The supergroup Blind Faith (Eric Clapton, formerly from Cream, as guitarist: Steve Winwood, formerly from Traffic, as organist and singer; Ginger Baker, formerly from Cream, as drummer; and an excellent bassist/violinist) had a short U.S. tour (14 concerts or so) in July and August of 1969, and my then-17-year-old brother and my then-almost-14-year-old self were fortunate to win tickets to see Blind Faith from a radio contest held by the FM-100 rock radio station in our hometown of Memphis - the tickets were to the tour stop which was geographically "closest" to Memphis, which was the Sunday August 3, 1969 concert at Kiel Auditorium, in St. Louis. My brother and I flew up from Memphis on Delta Airlines, saw a (then-brand-new, premiering) film "2001: A Space Odyssey" in the afternoon, saw the wonderful Blind Faith concert at Kiel, that evening; however, it had some unexpectedly lengthy encores; this caused us to miss our late-night ticketed Delta return flight to Memphis. We tried to hitch-hike (as was mostly quite safe and quite customary, in those years) on the nearby I-55 expressway for a ride to the airport in St. Louis, to call our parents and ask them to wire funds for a new return-flight airline ticket; however, co-incidentally, a trucker who gave us a ride was going not to or near that airport, but was going straight through (in the wee hours of the morning of Monday the 4th) to a truck stop in West Memphis, Arkansas, before heading on I-40 south to Little Rock in Arkansas; of course, from our perspectives, it was a thousand times better and cheaper to do this, than to have gone to the St. Louis airport. We could then call our parents in Memphis from the truck stop in West Memphis, and explain the situation (there were no cellphones back then which would have allowed for an earlier call), and they were so delighted that we were both still alive and well that my father (a self-employed artist) left his office and picked us both us from the truck stop in West Memphis -- with NO questions asked !!!!! GREAT Memories -- except for the worries of my parents !!!!!

Funny story: one of Clapton's reasons for agreeing to disband Cream was that he wanted to get away from wild man drummer Ginger Baker--only to then have him show up at the rehearsals for THIS band, Blind Faith, going "Right! Where do we start?!" No one had the balls to tell him to go home. Probably he'd have started swinging if someone had, he was THAT kind of guy, not to mention a brilliant drummer.
