  • My Oreck developed a broken wire where the power enters the head and here I show how to get into the Oreck and repair the break. It was an easy fix and it will still be good to use for a long while yet. The Oreck is a great tool in the arsenal for the VLM cleaner and mine is used primarily for steps where it works very well and is easy on the body.

Thanks they are good machines for multiple floor surfaces. We use it for stripping and waxing. And also for scrubbing. Only occasionally for Carpet bonneting

Great tool, some mock it but it is a great machine that can earn a lot of money and they last a long time, I still have my original one as well as the one I am repairing here.

Glad to do them, I find these machines we are using to be interesting how they work and are designed.

How it works is the relay sends power to the motor via the black wire and the yellow wire for start up then after a brief start up "jolt" the yellow wire drops out and it just runs on the black wire. When the relay goes bad, the motor will barely spin.

Yes, I thought about it afterwards and realized it would have to work that way as it has no capacitor and that is of course why it has to have the relay. I expect the motor would still run if the relay was bypassed and had no load on it and I assume that relay is likely a generic part and if one had the number off it then it may be available fairly readily. I also expect it is the most likely part to fail along with the switch on the handle. This is not a cheaply made machine, it is well thought out and is a great tool to have on hand.

The wire leading from the switch to the motor will eventually break as it flexes back and forth fatiguing the wire. Replace the power cord from the switch to the motor and its back in business.

I had a Oreck spitting fire out of that wear point last year.
