  • I am not an automotive expert. This video is a quick documentation of what worked for me. I do not guarantee everything I say or do in this video is correct. Please consult an expert before following what I do in my video.
That being said, I hope this video helps you if you are thinking of converting your generator in your Volkswagen Type III to an alternator.
My generator died and I decided to take the adventurous road to an alternator conversion and it worked out well for me.
With the exception of the mounting, I followed the step-by-step advice from aircoolednut on how to do this installation.
The link to his text description with photos is:

The alternator is a NipponDenso 40 amp alternator: part number: 100211-1680.
The fan belt is the equivalent of a 38.5 inch Goodyear 15391 V-belt.
If you see or hear errors or anything which could be dangerous or harm a vehicle in my video, please comment and be specific. I certainly do not want to cause any harm. This video is meant to help people.

Using the sturdier angle brackets is a good idea and it works. The document is a guide for how one can get an alternator installed with minor effort. You did a good job!
