I had a maroon/silver 97 JLX Sport, bought in 99 for less than 10k. One kid. Had to trade it 18 months later when my wife got pregnant with Twins. We miss this little goat!!! Good for you for finding one!!
This brings back soooooo many memories! My very first car ever was a 1996 Suzuki Sidekick JLX, the hard top 4-door model. It was candy apple red and it was my baby for many years. I got it for my 16th birthday in 1997. It was the car that I passed my driver's test in. It was also the car that I first met my now husband in when I was 18 and went on so many adventures in. I had that car for 10 years. I finally sold it in 2007 after my husband and I bought a brand new Jeep and really had no need for the Sidekick any longer. It had almost 200k miles on it and still ran great. It was such a reliable vehicle. Never had any problems with it. I remember way back in the early and mid 2000s when we could fill up the gas tank on just $20 and wouldn't need to fill up again for well over a week. You just don't see these little SUVs around anymore. It's probably been well over 10 years since I've seen one on the road. Almost 15 years after I sold it, I still sometimes feel nostalgic for my first car.
He had a newer Suzuki kasashi or whatever the hell they were called. They were actually pretty awesome looking, for a moment I thought it was a small e class or c class Benz before I seen the logo.
I just bought a 96 suzuki sidekick JLX sport 3 days ago for $1350 with new tires runs and drives great i like it way more than i thought i would its surprisingly really fun to drive i was only going to use it for off road and as a hunting vehicle but so far i just been driving it around town enjoying that good gas mpg lol. Looking forward to seeing more videos of the little sidekick.

JR sees Hoovie's video from earlier today where Hoovie has secretly added to his fleet. Feeling threatened, JR quickly adds the Sidekick to his squad, making an even 15.
I've seen a lot of sponsored videos, but I think this one's the best just because of how happy you are with the company and how it shows and how much you wrap them instead of just one little segment in the beginning where you rep the company and then you never hear about it again, but you rep the company like two or three times in different segments automatically not svrioredyand the excitement in your happiness with the product shows.
Nice! The factory sun roof and leather seats are pretty rare, there aren’t that many out there with those options. I bought my 97 sport for $800, put a new head gasket on it and it’s been a solid daily driver and first car for 3 years so far. I’m going to swap a manual and a 2.3L from a Suzuki Aerio into it soon.
Love It! In 1989 I bought a brand new Suzuki Sidekick, 2dr JLX 5sp soft top, for $9,000. My first manual transmission, 1.3L 90hp, 0-60 was 12 secs. Things I remember: great in snow, good gas mileage, rough ride, and super easy to work on. You could reach down and touch oil filter, could reach under to unscrew drain plug.
They have the most comfortable front seats I think I've ever sat in. Also, keep in mind, most people who off road these switch to the manual hubs. Only the JLX Sport had the 1.8 so there's that.
Whatever camera you used to record while you were driving, it looks much, much better. Super clear and high resolution. Did you get a new camera for your videos?
This car was made about 25 miles from me here in Canada at the Cami auto plant in Ingersoll Ontario. It was a joint Suzuki-GM venture. Try finding a late 80’s Suzuki Samurai. They were my favourite.
Those were used a lot as tow behinds for large RVs, especially in the late 80’s and ‘90’s. That would also explain the decals on the sides that matched the RV towing it. Also the manual hubs for better flat tow-ability, especially since yours is an automatic transmission. If you look under the front bumper there are probably provisions for a tow bar as well.
I worked for a Suzuki car dealer in the UK back in the nineties. We sold loads of those things, pretty cool. Then the Cappuccino arrived! They were real fun. Happy New Year to JR, Josh, Gabe, and everyone else here.

Then after like 230,000 it started blowing head gaskets. Plus it was having a nice round of smoke out the tail pipe. As for the back door. The grease in mine was hardened. A quick removal of the back door panel. Easy access to remove the latch and re-grease. After that my back door open and closed like a champ.

We have an 08 Suzuki SX4 we bought new and now has 200K on it . I cannot say enough good things about this car . One of the best AWD cars we have ever owned . Shame Suzuki left the U.S. !
I say throw a nice Thermal Research exhaust and stainless header on it, maybe a brand name cold air intake (not a cheap eBay or self-fabricated intake), clean it up, put some more aggressive tires on it, and rock it. It's a really good looking vehicle for an older Suzuki. I'm not saying that I would rice it up, I'm saying to put brand name well fabricated parts on it. Small things like dress up bolts and washers are OK, but using cheap engine parts like an eBay exhaust, suspension components, or a cold air intake is not worth the money that you save over brand name parts.
I have the 97 JLX Sport. Good luck getting parts. Beware: fitment resources are all fucked up. The 1.8L is super rare. Most engine parts you get will actually only fit the 1.6L. In other continents the 96 and up 1.8L was called the Vitara since its 100% different under the hood from the sidekick/tracker 1.6L. 0 In North America they didnt change the name til 99. 96-98 Sidekick 1.8L parts dont exist in most computers so they always give you the 1.6L parts and tell you they will work but They rarely fit.
I see these around, they ain't common. They're called Suzuki Vitara's! I also see the older ones which are called Samurais! Love the Vitara cause its a compact, fast and good SUV for off-roading. Hope you make this Sidekick like it came out the factory!
There was a dealership in Irvine California that would put leather seats into those things. I think they charged between 800 to $1,000 for the seats which is a good deal
If it has ever been towed behind an RV (very popular with those vehicles) you have to change to manual front hubs. I had to do this on my 91 tracker LSI. . People also paint tracker/ sidekicks to match there RV’s. Maybe that explains your tribal tattoo ;)

Sometimes guys swap the auto hubs for manual ones as they are more reliable
Exactly. Makes way more sense for the hubs to be swapped than all the other JLX features.
I figured it could've been because they were short of cash when they needed to replace the hubs, but your rationale makes more sense.

Fun ride...those rocker graphics are sweeeet 😎😎
I see these around, they ain't common. They're called Suzuki Vitara's! I also see the older ones which are called Samurais! Love the Vitara cause its a compact, fast and good SUV for off-roading. Hope you make this Sidekick like it came out the factory!
That Geo Tracker Shirt is Amazing!
Good luck in 2020! Watch your diet though, we need you around for content!
Thanks! Started working out in December, decided to be sort of healthy 🍻
Now this is the Coold Suzuki. I'd like to have one of exactly these. Oh, and nothing prevents you to set a small supercharger for it!
These very very popular in the U.K., called vitaras
Now they are all in the hands of off reading types - big version of the jimmy
I had a Geo tracker LSI AKA sidekick JLX That was also the top of the line trim but had manual hubs in the front.
There was a dealership in Irvine California that would put leather seats into those things. I think they charged between 800 to $1,000 for the seats which is a good deal
I’ve always wanted a tracker or sidekick. Why must JR beat me to all of my favorite cars.
Ikr, at least I beat him to owning an xB
He has a bad carcaine problem
If it has ever been towed behind an RV (very popular with those vehicles) you have to change to manual front hubs. I had to do this on my 91 tracker LSI. . People also paint tracker/ sidekicks to match there RV’s. Maybe that explains your tribal tattoo ;)
I have the same body style 2.0lt version and i friggin love it.Rock on!
If I got to cruise in the Sidekick with Watch JR Goes I would puff on the Cannabis Cigar and get all schmoked up
That guy also has a Suzuki Kizashi in the garage and a Suzuki Verona on the street
In the UK these are called the Vitara, available in either shirt or long wheelbase
