Great episode tonight Ron. Conning tower came out looking awesome with the lights. Red lights would preserve night vision for looking through the periscope i suspect. Hope Max feels better soon. Take care n see you tomorrow.
Ron, the red in the sub was for the humans. As they went above deck, at night, the eyes adjusted quicker if they came from the red lights. White light made them blind to the subtle lights of the targets. There were no lights illuminating the outside during patrols. Even navigation lights were off. There are white, red, and green lights illuminating the boat in safe waters.
Ron, you have done right by putting a current limiting resistor in series with the LEDs. You should do this with them all. LEDs run on current and not voltage but they do require a certain "forward voltage" to switch them on when they will start to draw current. More current = more brightness, but if they draw too much current they will not last. Do not panic about this as I feel that the fine wire you are using will perhaps have enough resistance to keep things OK, but better safe than sorry, eh? BTW there are lots of guides on this on RUclips... good luck, Billy
Hi Ron. I would think that you would also want to have the starboard side light or navigation light on the Corning tower. Starboard side is green and the port side is red. I don’t know if you have green transparent paid or would have to get a green LED. However, I believe this would add a lot. I’ve loved your shelves right from the very beginning. Merry Christmas happy new year although Christmas is gone. The best to you and all your family in the new year.
Ron a mother great video. Tamiya,s silver is the only paint colour I put in the bin, as its pigment was way too big. But that’s just me? Happy new year Ron.
Hi Ron, I’m confused. The wires for the conning tower bit are on the solid side of the conning tower which will be visible from the front because the outer skin of the hull in that space is clear, does that make sense? I’m getting the impression that trumpeter have not thought this through or the instructions are not right. Having to mount a mirror behind the model to see the inside of the conning tower just doesn’t make sense. If the part of the boat that the interior is visible is on the starboard side why have the visible part of the upper conning tower only viewable from the port side. Just a thought.
HI, the way Ron has ran the wires they will end up between the inner pressure hull and the outer hull so the wires won't be visible if he routes them directly to the solid side of the command compartment below. With some careful cable management and possibly painting of wires its possible to do, I've seen other modelers do it. You are right though, Trumpeter didn't design well when they put the clear section of conning tower the opposite way of all other clear parts of the model.
Go with the Amazon red LEDs. After all that work it would be a shame to have the paint fail for the cost of a few pennies. Didn't Max have two cars in the drive? Did he get the other one back yet? See ya. JimE
Hey Jim, The other car had power steering problems and is in the shop and may be there for some time. Apparently the part has to come from Japan. Can you believe it!
Hi Ron, glad you made us all see the light💡
Funny! Thanks Phil! 👍

@@roncalverley when I do my submarines, I paint black on the backside to block light leakage, then cover that with the color of the part (grey).
Sorry, backsides of LEDs painted black. Not sure if I was clear. Keep up the great work!
Hey Ron ,Good episode tonight, see you tomorrow.👍👍👍👍
See you tomorrow Danny! 👍
Hi Ron I think the red LEDs in the conning tower is the easy to go. Good episode. See you tomorrow😊
Thanks for your opinion. See you tomorrow Gary! 👍

Goodmorning Paul,
