- Here is a step by step, detailed tutorial on how to tie basic square scarf styles. These are the ties that one should master first before moving on to more complicated styles. This video is also a review for those that want to brush up on basic techniques. Enjoy and visit andreagrinberg.com for more!
This is a wonderful tutorial! I'm not really orthodox but my brother is and my sister in law wears tichels and whenever I visit her I really want to wear one. Even if I'm not married it feels good to connect to my religion and culture!!
Thank you so much for making such a helpful video!
Thank you so much for this!!! Lost my hair due to chemotherapy….. Don`t need a wig now ! Thank you!
I often cover my hair for non religious reasons. This was very useful
I still can't get these to work, but I'm doing way better with this video than any of the others. Thank you for this!
I’m losing my hair due to being sick with Lupus. I just wore a scarf for the first time last week because it’s now impossible to hide the hair loss. Thank you for this video, I felt more comfortable knowing that I didn’t look like an idiot with a half tied knot on my head and I felt better knowing how to make sure it didn’t slip off. Thank you!
🙏
Awesome! The first satin-y one I got in Jerusalem for 10 shekels (around 3 dollars). I love it and wish I had gotten some other colours.
Watching these videos is fascinating!!
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm new to head covering, it can be so intimidating to try new things but your video makes it much easier :D
Wow!!!🤩
Those scarves are super gorgeous.🥰💙💚💜❤💛
Square scarves are my favorite. I just found a, Ann Klein scarf at the thrift store for $3.98 in perfect condition - Barukh HaShem! Your satin one is so lovely. I've tried & tried to find them online, but thus far they've been completely elusive : ( Thanks for sharing your techniques. You and RIvka make this mitzvah even more of a joy.
btw I used your idea of shower curtain rings on a hanger and now my tichels are so neat & organized!
Hi Andrea, I have been covering for several years and owe you a debt of gratitude for smoothing the way for me at the beginning with your videos and accessories as well as your encouragement (show the scarf who's the boss!)
Even nite, years later, I like to revisit your early tutorials, such as this one, every couple of years to correct sloppy habits that have credit into my tichel tying and to rediscover things I never got around to trying. Thank you so much for the tichel revolution you have been a big part of!
I love the last one.
Beautiful, simple, and straight to the point. Thank You for this!
Considering starting head covering! Thanks, I love your videos.
Thank you, Andrea. I anticipate opening a B&B and was looking for an alternative to hideous hairnets to cover my long hair while working in the kitchen. These are beautiful!
I would so love to see your collection of tichels! Ever thought of filming a peek into your collection?
thank you!
That's a question I don't even want to find out! I have a lot. I often get them for less than a dollar at vintage shops, receive as gifts, and had quite a few that I actually wore around my neck before I got married! So yes, I have a lot, but do not spend lots of $ on them. You can certainly start with having a few basics, but they are generally like any other item of clothes, so I like having options. You need to think of them as basically another part of you outfit (like a shirt/skirt).
I love your videos, I have been wearing my head coverings and tichels for about 3 months. I couldn't have done it without your videos :)
Same here!
Women look beautiful and feminine when they cover their head
Respected
Que asessorio lindo maravilhoso vc fica bela ....🤩🤩🤩🤩🎀🎀🎀🎀
thank you Andrea, Chag Sameach
Where do you by velvet headbands, and the volumizer cap? Also, where do you like buying your scarfs?
You can buy them at Headcovers.com! They also have a RUclips channel! :)
Beautiful, what is the general scarf size(you may have mentioned it, but I didn't't hear it)! Thank you.
Thank you for making this and Yes Yes a No slip band is a must for me Long thick hair will help keep it on the ears and a iits place. May God Bless your day
Could you do a video on different tichel ties for different face shapes to compliment them? I just thought it would be a neat way to figure out which ties might be lovelier to wear & experience the beauty it might bring out in the certain shape of face each woman has.
Glad that you enjoyed it! If you ever want to share some of your creations with a group of woman from varied backgrounds that cover, check out my hair covering blog called "Wrapunzel" at wordpress!
What dimensions are these scarves?
Nice video explaining how to do it! Also, do unmarried Jewish girls cover their hair? If they do, do they use a tichel or something different?
Woooaaa me encantó la forma que enseñas tan sencilla y práctica !!
Can you please tell me where I'm able to get a cap like the one you're wearing here? I can only find pre-stuffed volumiser ones online but I just want a full coverage stretchy cap I can put over my hair and a bun. When I google it most of the results are pre-stuffed or tube-style..

Thanks for sharing! My face is round, do you have styles for my face shape?
Do you have any advice for hair care underneath?
:scarf with gold thread: "It's much more casual" lol
I guess to my eyes, anything that's shiny like that is actually the opposite of casual. But I'm a very odd little ginger and I tend to see things.....backwards.
Naw. ;-) The first one with lurex threads (where she made that remark) is made from thin cotton - I have bought them cheap at street fairs back in the day; they were quite the thing back in the 80's in my neck of the woods. They do have a casual feel. Now the first one was, I think, a nice heavy satin in a rich burgundy color or something like that. Think ball gown material. :-) Bit more special. :-)
Check ebay. Do a search on "lot scarf" or "lot scarves" if you want multiple at a low cost. You can also check specific searches for satin or silk scarves.
What size scarf was used?
Thanks so much for this! Where can the cap you are wearing be found?
What size scarves or fabric do you recommend for these styles? I tried wearing a regular scarf as a head scarf and it didn't work well for me. I like these looks that are used with a triangle shape.
I’m Pagan and veil. These videos are amazing! I’m going to get an under-cap soon and start wearing tichels specifically more often! ^_^
I know this is about 8 years old, but still, I want to comment on your non-acknowledgment of those who comment on your videos. Without those people, the views you get, allow you to benefit from them. You may think your videos in their own right express that without actually expressing it, but they don't. You made money by the people, including me, who view and comment on your videos. I don't want you to comment on mine, but why do you not comment on those who thank you, and who complement you?
Thank you for your video. Even when I wear a velvet headband, the tichel will sometimes slip unless I do the double twist over the bun (towards the end of the video). But my life is very busy and I have chores to do outside. So sometimes I put a straight pin in and attach the tichel to my headband. So far, it has not damaged the tichels. ❤
How many inches does the fabric need to be? So beautiful.
Absolutely fantastic! There is nothing more attractive than a woman who desires to and does keep the mitzvot. If only the young ladies of our generation knew that this is what men really desire, a strong, feminine, modest, woman of faith. I am sure that the same goes for ladies of this type that they likewise desire a man that is chaste, modest, faithful to God and has Torah written upon his heart.
Hi there - I find that having some volume on top with something hanging down the side (braid or ends of the scarf) can really help! If you message me privately I can share some pictures of women that I know that also have round faces and wear tichels beautifully!
How does private messaging work? I have been wondering for a long time and yet you're the only person to even mention it. I didn't think that was possible! What am I missing on this subject? Or is it only possible because you provide an outside resource?
What’s a good size for wraps like this? 🤔 I think the biggest I have is 24x24
For ladies who don't know, you can go to wrapunzel.com to find what you need.
You are so pretty! I wish I could get away with this, my face is so wide lol I just wanted to know how to make it look right when I'm doing a conditioning treatment, thank you!
Ma'am, you look so beautiful with beautiful scarfs.
Thank you so much for sharing this video.
I don't have the cap that you are wearing.
Is it okay to cover head without any underneath cap?
Ma'am, can we cover head with a loose hair or is it necessary to cover head with a scarf with bun?
Thank you
God bless you
Where do you get your scarfs? They are really pretty and big. I'm having trouble finding ones like that. Thanks!
Lisa Soehren she has a store online:wrapunzel.com... Her tichels are very nicely priced...
I love this! I love wearing headscarves and have often wondered how you Jewish ladies do it so beautifully. This is a delightful video and every style you have done enhances your natural grace and beauty. Thank you for sharing, and Shalom. Can't wait to try the styles!
Love those styles! And the scarves!
Wonderful video - very helpful! Thank you.
For the first style, I use thick ponytail elastic instead of trying to tie slippery fabric. Since it sits under the scarf next to my neck you cant see the elastic.
It's easier on the fabric, on me, its adjustable, perfect.
I like my scarf hanging down to cover my neck on a cold day. I'd do a turban if it was hot. With wet cotton fabric!
Could you do a everyday makeup routine 😍
Dear! I've just started to use head scarves, for modesty and trying to connect to my heritage. What brands or types of scarves would you recommend? I'm lost! Love your videos!
Beautiful! I love the way it looks. It's elegant and very feminine. Thank you for sharing this video.
Awesome ✨ thank you so much I am learning to convert and am just soaking up all these new and beautiful things! ✨💕Thank you
I'm doing this for religious reasons
May I ask roughly how many various scarves you have? I use to think that I didn't need too many scarves - just one or two basics. However, since I have been watching your' videos where you use multiple scarves at once, I've come to realize it is easy to accumulate many scarves.
Thank you, very helpful. ❤
why not fold it iand pin it before putting it on.
I like your teaching on wearing the scarves on your head. However I don't wear hats or usually anything on my had because I have a long face and and need fullness on the side to balance my look on all four side . What do you suggest for people with long faces my chin is long and I need to distract from that. When I wear something tight around my head I look like root buzzy with I had it on please show some examples of my request thank you
hi, is there a way I can make myself the first think you had on before, the beige thing, ? I live in Mexico, and there arent stores to buy it unfortunately I also dont buy online, so it would be easier 4 me to make it myself thanks
This is beautiful. I just shared this video with someone who wasn't sure what other ways there were to tie scarves (he or she is also Muslim, as am I) so I hope this enlightens him (or her) a bit.
Lots of women with wider faces do this! Check out wrapunzel[dot]wordpress[dot]com and look at the "Lady Wrap Stars" section!!
Andrea Grinberg has got an incredibly wide face, but it looks lovely. She's really pretty
Anyone can follow rules without having to master these first. I have. all it is, is following directions.
How large of a square are we talking about? Obviously way bigger than a bandanna. I am very VERY new to all this. I've been wearing bandannas which are ok for work, but I'm getting tired of wearing the same old, same old tired style. So I do appreciate these tutorial videos.
I would say 36x36 inches is the very minimum. My larger one is actually 47x47 inches; I think (don't have it handy right now). It depends, too, if you mostly want to do the first style; then small might work. If you want to do styles like the "Dutch Crown" a.k.a. Jerusalem Twist; you will want the larger, like the 47" ones. HTH!
Thk u for this vid! Juz what i hv bn looking for. Love the 3rd style.
Looks amazing on you.
Not a woman. Not Jewish. I watched this entire video and am now doing research on Tichels. Good job.
I absolutely love this video I have been sharing it with all my friends
Bella..
gorgeous and lovely. i love the material ypu used .thanks again .
God bless you and everything u touch .
please advise if we can try these styles for extremely short hair........... no buns or caps with lufa.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you brautiful
thank you so much for explaining about what goes under the tichel
I forgot to ask: are there any tichel styles that match best with a round, chubby face? I am plus sized and I often find that I look dreadful in a scarf! Thank you!
Thank you for this, very pretty the way you cover your hair.
Shalom! I began wearing tichels about a month ago, and my hair is falling out drastically. Daily i cover my hair, whether in a tichel or hijab. what should I do? Should i stop?
Thank you so much Andie
Do the ends ever come untucked?
I thought they were miṭpaḥat?
Tichel is the Yiddish word for the Hebrew mitpachat.
Beautiful love the golden scarf
Amazing! And such beautiful scarves. I bought my first tichel that has cords sewn onto the edges. It's super easy to tie and doesn't slip because it's cotton. Only problem is I can't wear it because in order to wear a mask you have to put it on first, then tie your tichel, and you cannot remove your mask while wearing the tichel at the same time.
You can get ear savers... it's a strap that goes around either the neck or the back of the head and fastens to the mask straps.
This is wonderful, thank you! Can you please tell me, are there any websites that sell volumizers? I try to google but I've found nothing. Thank you so much!
Thanks from an elderly woman in Mississippi.
I like that scarf
So pretty!!! Both you and the scarves. 😁
This is our gipsy style
Nice u made
😍😍😍
Thank you for making this video.
how many scarfs do you have..?
I guess more then yr dresses..
What’s the dimension of your scarf?
Много говорят 🤷♀️
What size should the square scarves be?
Around 40" x 40" is pretty standard for a square tichel
So pretty. I especially love the technique at 8:37.
LOve it!
I'd love to see these styles separated into separate shorter videos.
i love all these different looks thank you
