To be fair, American interviewer aren't that great. Jennifer would be a better interviewer than Colbert. I feel like he rushed her and didn't really give a shit who she was or what she was there for.
Cody Murphy he was struggling with her accent is all . She said watch and laugh , and he said watch and love “ so the rest of the interview she was thinking this man doesn’t understand a word I say .
Frances Inez I wonder if that is due to Jen she does not like interviews by herself she prefers to have a double team usually she is with Dawn or Joanna
Frances Inez most American interviews of guests are the same way I prefer to watch the UK talk series the delve in much deeper and they last longer I’ve fallen in love with the UK
As an American, I was just grateful that she came on the show. But, yeah, I too, thought it was too brief. She's a gifted writer and performer. And, still lookin good.
@@moonlily1 Was just going to comment similarly. Why, first, pit woman comics against each other for rank? And then why, when expressing your appreciation, separate them from other genders? Seems so pointless. Jennifer is one of the most brilliant comics, hands down. Also (Christina), best to get in the habit of calling women women and not "females".
Christina Gina I agree I simply adore her and respect her talent and the fact she is a wonderfully dedicated friend. Adrian was her good friend I think it is so awesome the 2 of them are married. I bet they have a very sweet relationship.
I'm an old-school Ab-fab fan and I've got to say that Jennifer looks wonderful! She is a real talent and what she said about the comedy being as risque as it used to be...she is spot on! I grew up watching Monty Python's Flying Circus and those guys had no limits!
You know, I was thinking that too...but maybe she wanted to pop in and leave. They showed a clip (what was Patsy doing with that hose thing?).It's advertising her new release and she probably sprints down the street to the next interview. That's all she wanted to do, I'm sure. These actors spend weeks meeting hundreds of media people while plugging their shows.

Jennifer Saunders is amazing. I have every DVD of Absolutely Fabulous and I will never lend them out in case they never come back. They cheer me up when I am down and I just LOVE Edina and Patsy,
I love seeing them on all the talk shows in america it kinda makes me cry a little. This week has been amazing to the child inside me. So I fed it cereal!
She's speaking with an accent that we Americans don't hear every day. Excuse him if it sounds like we pronounce "love". Sheesh. You do understand that we talk differently across the pond, right?
Mo BITCH, I am neither American or British and I could tell. You speak the same language and you act like it's Klington. Sheesh, stop making excuses that sound very stupid. Gosh, never travel out of your little town. People sound different across the pond.
Good lord, get some soap for that foul mouth and some medication for that temper. Whatever country you're from, it must be a miserable place to produce such a slug as yourself.
Well, they had absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. Does anyone notice that there are distinct times in this interview wherein Colbert seems awkward with her? Is he always so monotone with people? On another note, Jenn is looking great. If she was single in the mid-90s, and looking and being like she was on the American TV special she did back then, and if I was older, I SWEAR I WOULD HAVE MARRIED HER!! I would have popped the question SO FAST, OMG!!! I love her then and now, of course, but man, oh man!! Seeing her in her prime really turns me on like I can't even explain!! Good to know she's still appreciated here in the States.
I believe she has put a name to that feeling of your skin wanting to tear itself of and run away when you are exposed to a story about them - "Kardashi-Rash"
No, she was referring to the Kardashians. In an episode of AbFab she referred to them as a disease that constantly multiplied - with each cell getting its own reality show. Even Edina thinks they're talentless, pointless trash.
I still have no idea why The Kardashian's happened, what they do or who they are. I'm fucking proud of this rock I live under. I gotta stop watching this crap before I get a clue
there's room under my moss pad if the rock is too much....there's cookies and punch and we don't know anything about the K-unts or anything that is idolized in modern pop culture...it's great being a slug!!!
Actually in the episode titled poor they did care about politics or rather Eddie did. I remember because Gran made the joke after Eddie said “the 70s are back“, and then Gran said “oh does that mean you’ll be voting labor again dear?“ Eddie immediately lost her shit over the suggestion that she Hadn’t voted Labor.
For those complaining that Stephen didn't go all out for Jennifer (no great comedic moments, no sketch, etc.), imagine what the last week of his life has probably been like: Friday evening: tape show Saturday morning to Monday afternoon: finalize plans for convention week live shows, finish learning/polish song and dance number, fly to Cleveland, interview/do game show bit with delegates, perform at least part of song and dance number, do the Flickerman bit, do retakes of everything that could possibly need it, fly back to NYC. Monday evening: stare at TV screens with writers while you all furiously scribble down notes and lines for the live show you have to do immediately after. Thank lucky stars for improv experience. Monday night: do show approximately six or seven hours later than usual, but live and with less than half the usual prep time for the bulk of the commentary. Tuesday evening to Thursday night: repeat Monday evening/night cycle with increasing gratitude for pre-filmed segments, Jon Stewart, and coffee. Thursday night, 2 am: After finishing final live broadcast of the week, tape Friday's show while trying not to either fall asleep or think about the fact that you're about to go through the entire cycle all over again. Cut the guy some slack.
So, he gets to do a shit job just because he chose to do so much else? That is the same as saying, "Well, Jenny didn't do a through enough job researching this story, but she's also a hula dancer at night so we're going to cut her some slack and publish this rubbish anyway."
I don't think it would have the same relevance. The whole basis of the show is that Patsy and Edina are holdovers from the London scene back in the swingin' 60s who think they're still on the forefront of everything that's cool but don't know that they're actually out of touch. We don't have a city and an era that has the same pop culture significance. Who would an American Edina be?
The way I heard it was that whoever was trying to do the "American version" (I think Roseanne was involved) was told by the network that it could have NO smoking, NO on camera drinking of alcohol and NO drugs -- which pretty much cut out the hearts of Patsy and Edina. The language then would also have been problematic. Now, as Saunders points out a certain kind of political correctness would nix a lot of the script. Some British comedy series have been successfully imported & adapted. Ricky Gervais' "The Office" (with Steve Carrell initially in the Gervais role) was one.
PDZ1028 What? There's on camera drinking in American television. Even in the early 90s. On Roseanne, the characters frequently drank beer. People drank on 'Friends', people had wine and champagne in date and party scenes. People smoke on American television, but to be fair, only in brief scenes or anti-smoking plotlines. Drugs are another matter, but you can get around it. That 70s show implied marijuana use, except that you could never show a joint or a bong. You definitely couldn't do something like cocaine-encrusted nostrils for a sight gag; that you can't get away with here on network television, even now. But Ab Fab is well known enough in the US now that you don't need an American Ab Fab. I still don't think there's an American frame of reference for a character like Edina. Oh, little known fact: 'Three's Company' was adapted from a British show.
The movie came out on my birthday. I totally went to see it on the day, and I laughed my butt off. As a fan of the show, I was excited to see how it would translate to the big screen! Get in! It was awesome!

5:04 Yes, correct. People are easily offended and should learn to just laugh and have fun. That's why the new Ab Fab movies and series just don't work as well as the original series did in the 90's. Ab Fab has to be one of the greatest female-driven comedies. So well written!
THE best female comic. Hands down. The queen is back.
Dawn's pretty hilarious too .

Love patsy and Eddie

Saunders "no no just watch and laugh" Colbert (nods insightfully) "watch and love"
Embarrassing
Jennifer Saunders is amazing. I have every DVD of Absolutely Fabulous and I will never lend them out in case they never come back. They cheer me up when I am down and I just LOVE Edina and Patsy,
She's great. Fiercely smart.
He was a lousy interviewer. They didnt even edit it to look like he cared.
I wouldve loved to interview her. I have no interview skills though...

Check out both Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson in "The Young Ones"...where they played students sharing a house with two other guys.
thats probably because british humour is way better
Amelia was* better. I can't think of any modern funny comedian from Britain. Older ones, sure... but no one new.
his suit changes magically from the time he announces her name & then hugging her :)
In the thumbnail, I thought that was Christine McVie.
I can't believe I missed this. I adore her
Huge fan. Such talent. Looking better then ever
After the dig on Scientology, you realize that he HAD to cut to commercial and get her off the stage, right? For her safety, I mean.
Well he asked the question to provoke an answer like that. He asked that religion that...
She’s so sharp, scientology 😂
Stephen's suit changes, 'Magic'.
She is correct about how sensitivity of people is propelled on social media.
Same thing happened with Mel Brooks’ comedies.
Society has lost its ability to just laugh at every new political fad. We need to lighten up!
Could someone PLEASE tell me what that song is the band is playing at the start? I've been trying to find it for years...
It's called "Land of a Thousand Dances". The song's best-known version is probably Wilson Pickett's 1966 recording.
i used to watch this show when i was 7 can believe its still continuing, got to catch up
Who else came from the outtakes for the suit continuity error?? XD
not like a Brit chat show is it? where you come on and just talk about things and maybe what ever you're flobbing at the time...but in America it's. stick to the script, sell your stuff and move along...gotta get to that commercial break!!...Air Kiss Sweety Darling.
Right. Craig Ferguson was different, you rarely talked about the project at all and none of it was prepared. He actually spent a good amount of time mocking the format.
That's why America runs the world and Britain drinks a lot.
So what?
so true. american tv is humourless
"The format Eddi and Patsy would love".
No depth, all surface and glitz.
Okay maybe I live in a cave but had never heard of the show or the person before so I missed a lot of context in the clip. That being said the walk into the door after telling her she is "Absolutely Fabulous" was a pratfall worthy of the Threes Stooges or the Marx Brothers...brilliant!
OMG, if you can find the show online, watch it. It may date a bit, but it was pee your pants funny!
Its on Netflix right now, go, go!

she is a queen
I miss their show.

BEST. SHOW. EVER!
steven...was the Patsy looking like Ivana a joke, or serious? UK/aussies always got the reference.
Rebecca English-Tenji Even Bubbles got it. “All that blond hair piled on her head. Pouty lips. Complete tart. Sorry.”

(23 Jul 2016) "We're beating you now for crazy politics." (04 Jan 2021) Well, Jennifer, that didn't last long.
Why the politics question? The only entertainment left that's politics free is sports and porno; which sucks.
I love how the English pronunciation of "laugh" sounds like the American pronunciation of "love".
Depends where you’re from. Northern English laugh is pronounced ‘Laff’
Love her, thanks for allowing us to grow up with you
Well that was short. I meant the bloody segment. jeez...
Did you know Edina was named after Jennifer Saunders husband Ade Edmondson. Two great comedians
Love from Greece

The paint look good anyways
2 of my favorite people.
they probably edited out anything that she said that was non pc
I'm only watching this for Jennifer Saunders!

Genius. Beautiful genius.

❤️ Her !

damn she looks good
She is the greatest!

People are way more offended now. ITS COMEDY PEOPLE!
We love you Jennifer

what a great thing to say on a Jennifer Saunders video
I'm hoping Jennifer Saunders becomes president... there, I got it back on topic
