Nope atheism is a disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.. atheism is rejection based it has nothing to do with evidence has nothing to do with science has nothing to do with critical thinking. Matter of fact you're not even required to be able to think to be an atheist.
Even if it's proven by the scientific method the origins of life was the result of a Creator AKA God The atheist still wouldn't accept it.

[Edit: I now see that you were responding to a hidden comment. My criticism is primarily directed at that comment. Sorry about the inadvertent friendly fire.]
Indeed it does. The caller described atheism as a "negative philosophy, and negative philosophies don't exist."
To begin with, the caller managed to pack three Bare Assertion fallacies into this one sentence, attempting to infer that atheism is therefore absurd.
Next, you're strictly incorrect to argue that NOT ACCEPTING A CLAIM is sufficient to constitute a philosophy. If it were, then simply doubting the claim that there's milk in the fridge would qualify as a philosophy. At that rate, EVERY position on EVERY claim would constitute a philosophy, rendering the term "philosophy" meaningless.
But if that was your goal, congratulations. You've now rendered your own position meaningless.

The problem is that even if a person was to say "There is no God" there is no evidence that can be presented that will prove a no god claim true. You can't find evidence for non-existent things.
It will always be the responsibility of the person making the claim of the existence of something to prove the existence of that thing.

And that's exactly why the Default Position on existence is "fails to exist unless demonstrated."
It seems a bit asymmetrical, in that the question is really undecided. But the universe gets very crowded if we have to fill it with all of the things whose existence is undecided.
So, for ordinary propositions, those are simply held as undecided. For existence claims as s slightly special case, they're not even put on the map without justification.

    3) We have zero documents, document fragments, or words on any page written from the biblical character, Jesus’, own hand. That’s seriously poor divine inerrant record keeping.

  • @CrawfishDeluxe

Where his argument falls apart is when he asserts that God is some kind of singular agreed-upon thing, and does not deviate from that description. The reason he can't wrap his head around atheism is because he believes that to be an atheist requires you to first agree that the Christian god is the one and only true god, and then go about rejecting it, which sound so silly, and if done with every religion wouldn't work, because you would have to carry all of those different labels.
It sounds silly, because it is silly. Atheists have saved themselves the effort of just bundling all the supernatural claims together with their shared trait, and then rejecting that.
If Luke got his way, then literally every version of Christianity that isn't his, as well as literally every other religion in the world, would collectively agree that he is the exclusive holder of the claim of god; they all believe in something else and now need to come up with new words, because the word god belongs to him. An intensely narcissistic worldview which we will not be adopting, thanks but no thanks.

Even when we present them this fact, they continue to think they're right. Same when they face a muslim. When two people are both 100% convinced of something, but they're both convinced of contradictory things, at least one of them must be wrong. Which means that both have at most 50% chance to be correct ("at most" because both can be wrong, but both cannot be true at the same time). Another point is that you cannot be part to a religion, but at the same time simply dismiss every other religions. You can't be a christian but simply say about islam that it's a false religion. That doesn't apply to atheism because we don't have the hypocrisy to simply dismiss muslims while being part of another religion (we don't dismiss every religion "but one", we dismiss all religions the same way)

He's arguing semantics. If he wants "atheism" to mean the opposite of theism to align with other words using the a- prefix (which isn't even what the prefix means) for "consistency," then fine. He then has to come up with a new term for the position of lacking belief in God. It's like he thinks he can nullify the position entirely if he can take away the words for it, which isn't how language or beliefs work.
I don't like the fact that words are defined ny usage which changes over time. I would rather they be consistent. But I don't deny the fact that they are not, and I accept the burden of defining what I mean when I use contentious definitions.

Atheism is an open ended position when it comes to disbelief and rejection. We can't reject the existence of every god claim there might be. Deism for example, is something no atheist can sufficiently reject.
But when it comes to specific claims of specific faiths, there can be features of those beliefs that we can reject. I reject the existence of the Abrahamic god, whose holy book is grossly incorrect about established historic and scientific fact, is internally contradictory, or relies on miracles that suspend the laws of physics and logic that can't be demonstrated, recreated, or investigated. For those reasons I can say with a high degree of confidence that the god of Abraham does not exist.

Defining atheism is a lack of belief in a god is ridiculous for 3 reasons
1 Is is a subjective term that varies from religion to religion
    - it literally defines my position, I do not believe in a god or gods. And yeah, I have to ask what people define as god, so what.
2 It is a negative philosophy and negative philosophies do not exist
    - atheism isn't a philosophy. Its literally the position that I hold about the god belief.
3 Believing in a god isn't as compartmentalized as atheists imply
    - doesn't matter.
Basically his entire argument is, well, absolutely stupid.

  • @jacobopstad5483

It makes no sense to define atheism as a belief that God does not exist for many reasons, including the fact that "God" isn't universally defined. "God does not exist" presupposes monotheism, for example. Why don't people ever talk about atheism as a belief that gods do not exist? It's always about the singular proper noun "God" because it's from believers who can't grasp the notion of other gods existing (or not) and who have associated "God" with a name and not a category. Even in this conversation the caller talked about a lack of belief in "God" (and not "gods") because he likely only interested in his notion of "God."

    • @meloveAi
      @meloveAi 17 дней назад +2

Usually because a lot of theists cannot accept the possibility that their God figure does not exist. So it becomes a false dichotomy of saying "God exists" or "God doesn't exist." Instead of the more open "God might not exist, so I don't believe until there's more information or evidence"

    • @EdithBromfeld

OH BS. Atheism has always been defined as the doctrine that no God or gods exists. Agnosticism on belief was the neutral position.
Modern atheist liars began hiding atheism behind these phony, non-standard definitions indistinguishable from agnosticism about ten years ago.
Only atheists refuse to make the proper distinction between what most modern theists believe (God) and the gods.

    • @XJWill1

Even worse, the caller was trying to say that "lack of belief in god" is a problem with the definition because there are many gods. I'm not sure why he did not consider the definition "lack of belief in gods" since that would appear to address his objection. It would also address his issue about Jewish people being atheists since they lack a belief in the caller's god, but they obviously do not lack belief in "gods".

      @AtheismIsDestructive 17 дней назад

Lacking a belief in God is not subjective it's one thing it's an unwillingness to accept God.
Lack of belief equates to unwilling to accept.. same thing with non-belief same thing with no believe it all equates to unwilling to accept.
And disbelief means unwilling or unable to accept. Atheism is both and unwillingness or an inability to accept God.
Atheism has nothing to do with logic has nothing to do with science has nothing to do with critical thinking.. if you replace the brain of an agnostic a person who believes in God and an atheist with rocks it would result in three atheists.

Even if it was proven by the scientific method that the origins of Life as a result of a Creator AKA that God exists an atheist still wouldn't be willing or able to accept God. Because atheism has nothing to do with evidence, nothing to do with logical reasoning it's simply an unwillingness or inability to accept God.
I bet you don't even believe the origins of Life came into existence without creation, without God and if I'm wrong and you do please provide evidence to why you believe that .
And if like I suspect you don't believe the origins of Life came into existence without creation, without God just say the words that you don't believe the origins of Life came into existence without God you should have no problem saying that if it's your position unless you have a bias.
