Oh my, Cary Grant's quote after the fire was beyond insensitive to all who perished. Great actor, but saying "we should forget it," was a shame. Tell that to the family members of the 85 people who lost their lives. Love the video by the way!
I absolutely agree with that point. I was surprised he used those words. People were a bit more blunt back then, though, I don't think anyone that famous would've said it that way today.
Wow I also totally appreciate you taking the time to *properly* add the credits overlay so I can check out the other youtube channels :D thanks again! You earned a sub today lol.
I actually worked at the MGM from 1977 till 1979 at which time I quit to relocate to N.C. The fire happened during the graveyard shift in 1980 and some of my co-workers who worked there had to crawl to the entrance because of the smoke which fortunately was close to the Keno lounge that we had worked at! I came back in 1981 and was hired at the same casino hotel after it was renovated after the fire and became Bally’s! Thankfully I missed the tragic fire and worked at Bally’s for ten more great years!
That was an awesome video I really enjoyed it !! actually stayed at the Paris last time we went to Vegas and I’ll be honest bally’s kind of seemed a little boring compared to it
Thank you for your lovely comments! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video! I agree - Paris really does have the edge on Bally's and looks like a great place to stay
It’s crazy how the hotel lost so much of its beauty. I’ve always disliked Ballys/horseshoe from the strip. The grand bazaar shops and the whole property feels messy now. It looked like it was a really nice place. Someone could’ve made it compete with the hotels being built in the 90s easily with some work. Could’ve remained a luxury hotel as well. Such a difference from it now
11:19 the painting I remember as you entered the hotel from the port cochere: Astaire and Rogers from "The Barkleys of Broadway" I haven't seen that portrait in 38 years!!!! Thanks for the cool clip.
Bally's has been my hotel of choice for 7 Vegas runs. I like that it's centrally located, the rooms are big, and the 🍸 store is across the street. Never really played in the casino and hung at the pool 2x. Went to Caesars pool instead. Nice gym which i always used.
Didn't Bally's have a fire in the early 90's also? I was living in Las Vegas at that time and I seem to recall a fire at Bally's set by an employee that started in one of the rooms near some draperies.
I stayed at Ballys one night and Paris one night in 2004. It wasn't very memorable. But I liked Paris better. I had stayed at the MGM in 1973 for 3 weeks. My husband was very lucky at Baccarat and we had room service many times!
Gonna be staying there next week. Never stayed there but I wanted to try it since it’s now called the horseshoe and they’ve done even more upgrades to the hotel and rooms.
Oh my. I stayed at Bally's some years ago with my mother, sister, cousin's and aunt. I had no idea that used to be mgm where the tragic fire happened! I remember watching that on TV when I was 12 or 13. Wow. I'm glad I didn't know! I was not Impressed with it. Check in people were kinda sharp and rude and the rooms were so so. Good enough for sleeping I guess. The pool was also far away and I had to walk into through the hotel wet to go back to my room as there were no changing rooms by pool.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, I would rather not have known either about what happened there. I think I would struggle to shake the thought from my mind. It's a shame you didn't have the greatest time there - like you say sometimes it is enough just to have somewhere for sleeping and to have a good base for your vacation.
these are SO good. Thank you for your channel.
Thank you so much! So happy you're enjoying the videos!

In 2023 Bally’s was renamed a horseshoe. I believe this was due to Caesars entertainment technically not owning the Bally trademark.
Love this keep the videos coming!
Thank you! More to come soon!
AH perfect, this is the info I was curious about!!!!! Fantastic, thanks, you satisfied my curiosity :)

@@AmusementTourist You put on a good video. Now Bally's is going to be Horseshoe. Vegas changes so fast.
@@Jay-L really??? I hadn’t heard that. Wasn’t there a Horseshoe back then?
Great video!

It is now known as Horseshoe Casino as of the beginning of 2023.
It’s now Horseshoe.
