      @michaelcolllett9082 thanks. It's a largely forgotten proposal. It Would have been an exciting ride if it had actually been built

    Imagine it now ,reminds me back in the early 2000s they wanted to build a monorail here in Hammersmith out to Heathrow using piers on the central reservation of the A4/M4 connecting with the tube and bus station here but it quietly disappeared into another might of been ,all the best mate

      Monorail plans do have a habit of disappearing. Conventional rail does win out over Monorail. They seem like a good idea, but more often they aren't

    It would be interesting to see a monorail to operate from Manchester to Liverpool that would be beneficial. And also to extend the monorail from Manchester to Bradford, Leeds and Hull.

      @@Andrewjg_89 it was way ahead of it's time. Unfortunately conventional rail has had a head start. Although it was slower & less safe than monorail at first. Conventional rail has now well surpassed monorail's speed & safety

    The train I saw in the first picture looked just like the Shinkansen or Japanese Bullet Train.

      @Madonsteamrailways yep.i used that as an example of what it might have eventually become. It's difficult to find representative photos of the line, considering that the investors got cold feet and pulled out. Indeed, successful monorail lines are rare. Conventional railways beat them hands down

    Merseywail, do you have any thoughts on bringing the now-unused (mostly) Fiddler's Ferry line into Merseyrail? I can hardly think of any reason not to!

      @@caramelldansen2204 not something I've ever thought about. Can't say I've ever seen any plans for Merseyrail to ever extend over that section. There's plenty of easy extensions that Merseyrail could do but the old excuse of no money always rears its head. We need to rename Liverpool to London. We would have £ billions spent on transport then.

      @Merseywail Hahaha true!!
      I don't think the "no money" excuse is a good one because 50% of the line is already OLE electrified, 99% of the track is built (a single track for the Halewood - Garston docks part of the line for freight is the only addition I'd recommend), so all you need is station buildings and platforms and a little bit of OLE!
