I use to work for a contractor back in the 90s Andrew, my tractor then was 125hp it seemed massive then now 200+ seems the way forward but it’s all very big! Your heifers look bloody well 👌🏻👏🏻
I was watching Tom Pembertons vlog a few weeks ago - he mentioned you in the vlog about who he had been watching before they went ahead the collars for their milking herd
I don't think I've ever had a 90% submission rate, usually about 85% but still calved 50% in 3 weeks and well over 70% in 6 weeks That was the target and what I got paid to achieve
sexed semen is probably best used on the best fertility cows. its a hard balance not join the best cows because their your favourites and want heifers out of them.
Here in North America it would be a dream come true to milk just once a day and take three months off. I can’t think of a better way to go bankrupt than to cut my production by 75%
@@montyklaus7223 I get that and fair enough, but sometimes more milk means more money spent on feed, so overheads are bigger, what happens if the milk price drops below production cost? more milk more loss? Farming is our lively hood but its also got to fit our lifestyle, your a long time dead and I enjoy getting home every night at 5 and having dinner with the kids and playing with them but also the freedom to be able to attend anything they have on or spend time off farm. I'm not saying our ways the best, far from it. We also do have the luxury of having very mild weather conditions compared to you so we can get away with minimal infrastructure. The videos are just to show another farming system, its always interesting see how others farm
Here in Australia once a day milking done well can be just as profitable per ha as twice a day milking I don’t get the more milk equals more money comment? I do see the more milk per cow produced the more marginal the profit on those extra litres
Do you need a qualification to do the Artificial Insemination ?? Do you do it or do you just video your Dad as you can't video yourself doing it ?? Good luck with the breeding season 😊
Hi i like your video
Best of luck with all the cows and heifers mothers to be, best of health for them and the offspring, when that time comes.

Hi Andrew did you ever think of freeze branding your cows/heifers ? Make it handy rather than having to go check numbers👍
Freeze branding on Jerseys is not very successful due to their colour and thin skins. 🏴

I’m not quite sure if your having a dig at me or it’s tongue and cheek?
However 6-7 weeks isn’t 3 months, and we’re certainly not going bankrupt
@@TheOnceADayFarmer not digging at you but we make as much milk in a year as we can to make ends meet. More milk, the more money

Would there be subsidies in North America? A dream for us in the South Pacific
