POLL1 What should East Play: tinyurl.com/yb...
One of the most important times to signal is when you lead the ace in a suit contract. It is normally a poor choice to lead an ace when you do not have the king (although far too many players do this!) So when your partner leads an ace you should signal on the basis that they have the king, but maybe not the queen. They are looking for a signal from you: High to Encourage, Low to Discourage (HELD) Your partner should signal encouragement if he holds the queen or a doubleton - but not in any other situation

A situation where 8C is low tinyurl.com/yl... POLL 3 tinyurl.com/yw... Your partner plays 4C. Is that high or low?
You lead A, K partner signals High-Low, but your partner plays queen - NOT something he should do if he wants you to ruff, POLL 5 - what should East play at trick 3? What should West play at trick 4? Shift to a spade which leads to a spade ruff - down 1 tinyurl.com/y94...
Your partner has encouraged, so started with a doubleton.
Which card should West you play at trick 3? POLL 6 tinyurl.com/24...

I really enjoy the lessons. I don't have the time to play in my local club, but I really enjoy learning. You're a great teacher.

Nice example board 9. Uppercut offered and loser discarded in lieu of over ruff. Pretty.

Nice examples, although nowadays most players prefer to use UDCA, so these signals would be just the opposite, for Attitude and Count.

I don't know anyone who teaches udca to beginners or advanced beginners. The only exception would be if that is commonplace in your particular club. Then you're pretty much forced to teach it.

Upside Down Count and Attitude signals are fine, if you want to use them. Clearly you must agree in advance. I think standard signals are better for less- experienced players.

If you false-card, isn't there a danger your partner mistakes it for an attitude signal?

There is always the danger that you might either 'false card' or you may have a singleton, in which case the partner would not be able to plan the defence correctly, but I prefer to just signal correctly - an experienced Declarer would anyway not be fooled by your 'false carding', but the bigger danger is that your 'wrong' signal may completely spoil your defence, which is usually what happens in the majority of the cases.

Yes, in general a defender should not falsecard as he may confuse partner. Declarer can falsecard freely, as you may only confuse the opponents. One exception if that you can falsecard as a defender, if it does not matter whether your partner is misled - for example, in a slam contract there may be no chance partner will ever gain the lead
