WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.
I’ll tell you what’s depressing Jack man, when you say, “see how bad that is” and it’s ten times better than anything I have ever done lol 😂
These videos are a gift. Thank you good sir
You're very welcome
Ive watched patrick for a bit now, when he goes quiet thats when the magic is underway...he usually has somethi g at least semi noteworthy to say. Like always thanks for the ride.
I miss heard "make it happen people " as "naked napping people" please don't do that.
Great vid Patrick, Thanks!!
You're very welcome
Just started the video, almost lost my sip of coffee all over the dash of my truck, from your talking smack.🤣 Jack , please don't encourage stupidity,it's just to funny. And yeah I know some people that make it happen too. Not anymore 🤣🤣🤣. Love the vids and the smack. Thanks.👍
27:11 because if you abrade with the finer grit it will make the edge to strong and put you in a snappage situation.
Good point
@@KnapperJackCrafty you taught me that on a different video. Thank you again for everything you do for us DHC peeps.🫡
Un profesional de la prehistoria
I found that sawmills will throw the grinding wheels into creeks. So you can find them there. I’m lucky that I can walk down to creek and collect various courses of grinding wheels.
Hmm...
Regarding Armenian arrowheads made of stone I saw mentions about them on the archeological site where Armenia wants to build the biggest Christ statue in the world, next to their capital. It's a huge controversy. I didn't search for more in-depth info but they apparently did exist so it's a beginning for where to look.
Cool
Seen a video of yours when you knapped some crystal. I found quite a bit of it but haven’t had much luck knapping it. Tough as nails considering you last video I am considering soaking it in water for a long time then adding it to the white chert in the turkey roaster as an experiment. If anyone has done this I would like to know about any results. This crystal has a chalky cortex with many fossils on it.
Post a video of the material
@@RedEyedPatriotlet me learn how to do that.
Second short of the black material is obviously not the same. Was one of the first bits I found when I decided to get back to trying this.
@@RedEyedPatriotanyway something he said about to dry got me thinking. I bet it’s fairly porous. So I shouldn’t exclusively do that one experiment. I should heat treated without soaking it. I should soak it and not heat treated and I should soak it and heat treat it and then just do raw and try all of those I believe that will cover all the bases and give a control group.
Hi Patrick , have you ever attempted to create an Alaskan Ulu knife ? Just for the fun of it ,it doesn't seem likely the would have made any way back when . Now that I think about it ,it probably wouldn't be very difficult for you😁
prepare to get knappy with Mr. Crafty, he's got the rock, to fill a box ,with nice flakes to make you shake! Come and see what he can knap, without a lap to make you smile.
Sorry stupid jingle but you asked for it lol
am i the only one seein the electric blue in that stone!😂
Are you going to the flint ridge knapp in?
I'll try, but it doesn't look good. I need to save up for a major trip in October.
I believe neanderthal used points like that, but they were spears, not for arrows
Correct
I'm curious to know how you dispose of the debris left oven.
It goes into the dumpster and then to the landfill with all the other modern trash. This ensures that the debitage will not be confused with prehistoric artifacts in the future.
47:40 Imagine flintknapping gobbling up money and not getting anything from it other than gravel for your rock garden lol this is where I’m at. I wish I had a supplier close enough that I could take my truck and trailer and get some whole rock. Buying boxes of rock is kinda expensive.
Where are you located?
@@KnapperJackCrafty southern ohio. When I get time I’m going to make a trip to flint ridge it’s 4 hours away from me.
@@austinlong7700 Nice
@@KnapperJackCrafty do you know if it’s common for landscaping places that sell boulders and rock to have flint or chert?
@austinlong7700 not very common, except in areas with lots of flint or chert in the local river beds and gravel bars or wherever they usually pick up the rocks. Once in a while, they will have literally tons of flint or chert.
Ill be going to glass Butte in may weather permitting
Sweet!
A lot of points on average for atlatul darts is between 5 to 7 grams
Good to know
A guy like you never had to go hunting, we need to give you a title and we'll trade you how many deer,? For a bag of points!
😁👍
I second that emotion 😊
The consensus is money, small don't go for much
True
Just got far enough to hear you say charcoal. Should I smoke my rocks and meat together? The grill will hold the rock decently.🤣😂🤣🙃😐
Don't laugh. There was a RUclips video back in the day showing a guy heat treating rocks in his bbq grill. I wish I could find that video.😁
@@KnapperJackCrafty that face at the end is very serious.
@@KnapperJackCrafty cook on the rocks you are cooking?
I enjoy some good smack talkin. Makes for some good entertainment 😆 I do much much smack talking in my troll community. Everyone is the subject of the joke. They've lit me up a few times. Make messed up videos with your head on a different body. One guy got into it with another one and he knew the guy lived with his grandpaw so the other dude called the county coroner and acted like his grandpaw had died and they need to come pick up the body. The other guy was live on YT when the coroner showed up and knocked on the door. I bout died 😆 people are crazy man
Speaking of dumpster diving I use to hit the one behind Guitar center. I would find good guitars and amps and all kinds of stuff. I would keep or resale. Untill they caught me once and then they would break the guitar necks or smash the amps so they couldn't be used. What a waste ya know.
@@RedEyedPatriot Diving those dumpsters is a hard life. 😉
Got rock shops down here in Florida and they charge both your testicles for rock. I'll pass
Smart move.
Talking Hobbit. 2nd breakfast.
Oh yes.
First. 😁
Something else besides first? 😅
Exactly consensus is 👎
Consensus basically means that overwhelming majority of scientists in the field agree on something. It has nothing to do with politics. Politicians on the other hand love to spread science misinformation. Especially the right wing ones
