Terrific 16mm film nicely preserved and converted into digital. I was in France at that very same time and I appreciate seeing Robert Capa and Ernest Hemingway in real candid shots.....Thanks for posting this....I visited Mt. St. Michel in 2010 and made a short video. I'm glad these guys had a chance to take a break from the war....
Thank you for this amazing historical photo. I had forgotten that you are the gentleman whose videos I saw about Augsburg and Munich in the 1940’s. I was looking for my Oma (grandmother) and Mama in the Augsburg photos. It is the most beautiful city in Germany 💕.
I can really recommend visiting this place once in Your Life ! It leaves an everlasting impression ! My Dad told me how the Knights during middle ages fought each other at places like these, but the Tide came up faster than a horse in gallop, and many drowned wearing heavy armour ! During Low tide U cannot see the Sea from the Dunes. As for me , I read many comics as a kid ,and one of em was the Blake & Mortimer Series,. One of their Episode's was taking place at this Island, and just because of that, I was very impressed by Mont-Saint Michel, and always wanted to visit the place. I also been to Jersey and Guernsey, but for me , being 14 old , Mont-Saint Michel was way more interesting !
Wow..What preservation footage, awesome those children are they still alive..Can you find them those people with you during that period of time Thanks for sharing Jack from Phillipines manila
When I visited in the summer of 2019, being that I've aways enjoyed history, I always wondered how the place looked in way time, absolutky stunning architecture, a butiful place to visit and weirdly feels homely, it was my first time away from England, and was a butiful place to visit, well worth it
im confused this video is dated 1944 but yet Anne " Annette " Boutiaut Poulard died in 1931 aged 80 & this is stated on the La Mere Poulard Wikipedia under the history tab & she is the founder of the restaurant & was noted for her Omelette creation so either this video is dated wrong or the Wikipedia is wrong so which is it ?
amazing...all the face perserved for eternity. Everyone in this pictures aged, died will vanish. MONT SAINT MICHEL, Faith will outlive all of us. Humans are so small. We should be humble and enjoy our short trip called life. PAX OPTIMA RERUM!
MAN, can you imagine building this place, & without any modern or power equipment to do so?
Not one atheist laid a stone in that place all those years ago.
@@Irishandtired Yeah it was built by people who believed burning people alive was acceptable and never took a bath.
@@mikeFolco I thought not bathing and nuclear warfare were strong atheist principles
@@mikeFolco dude, it was 600 years ago. Let it go. Times we're different back then, morality and all of that.

Sad whenever the narrator goes "...and he would be killed in a battle a while later"
GREAT history lessons. Thank you so much.

Impressive footage!
Really precious!
Very strange, I've just visited Mont Saint Michel and I could not see any sign telling "Hemingway was here"...
Fascinating...
Now, that was special
They post a US, Canadian and UK flag there now, in remembrance and thanks

It's not her in the film. But I went there today and you can still buy her omelette. It's hasn't been her cooking for 90 years.
My father was there 1944 he didn't remember it being so happy. US Army Infantry Omaha Beach France.
DOCUMENT RARE
The commentary is just slightly asynchron
the woman sitting next to Bill Streaker is quite the looker
I wonder: Did the U.S. Army Signal Corps film this?
SUPER

War for the Country's Army and Navy. Uniforms.
0´12´´ Frank Cappa.
It would be Frank Capra, and he was a film maker, not a photographer, he also survived the war
looks like old city from Israel.
