- Amen Thompson is the best player on the Houston Rockets. He’s only in his 2nd year, they’re one of the best teams in the league, but it is true. Everything that this team could accomplish this season and become moving forward has to do with who he has become and what he can still grow into - an unbelievable development for an already extremely talented Rockets team.

I love Amen and I do think he is the best prospect in the Rockets' roster but the Alpi disrespect in this video is crazy. There are only a few players in the league at the moment that attracts the double and triple teams Alpi is getting thrown and saying that Amen is the guy and he is the only guy is hyporbole. I love your commentary and yes, Amen is special but this one felt a bit personal, chief. I fully expect Amen to be the best player of the Rockets and have a lot of success but he's going to achieve all that with Şengün, not despite him.

I think he's mostly just saying that he can have a higher ceiling, i dont think he disrespected Segun at any point. Obviously he's good, but amen has been good too
First off, all sports commentary is hyperbole, including your thoughts on Sengun. Second, I think everyone on this roster is actually about the same. There isn’t really a tier of Amen > Sengun > Jalen, whatever. That is probably how most people view them right now, but that is right now right now. That could change in a month. And the difference between them is so small, I think it is insignificant. None of those guys are really in their own tier because they’re all good and they all do something different. Sengun will make the all star team this year though because he has been doing it the longest, while Jalen and Amen only recently started hitting his stride. But there is a legitimate argument that every one of these guys can be the best player on this team any given night. They don’t have a best player in the best way possible. At most, I think the Rockets have 3-4 tiers. The Sengun, Amen, Jalen tier, and I view all 3 of them equally, then the more role player core tier of Jabari, Tari, Cam, maybe Reed someday, then the older vets tier of Fred and Dillon. Then everyone else. But it would be stupid to say that Jabari, Tari, Cam, and Reed cannot develop into the best player on this team. Crazy to think about but this Rockets team is like that OKC team with KD, Harden, and Westbrook, except that they have 6-7 guys who can potentially become a future MVP, not just 3.
Sengun is the best player on the rockets. Amen got most of those looks on Senguns gravity and them double teaming him

I know I’m going to get hate, but I agree. What Amen is doing with his grit and defensive tenacity is great. But it’s great in a way we more commonly see than a skilled prototypical PF like Sengun.

He isn’t nearly the passer but alllll the defender and honestly a better layup package and floater game. His jump shot is ass but it’s being shot so always better. I’d say he’s more of a young Josh smith

SGA and Chet are better though. Plus OKC just have a much stronger, deeper, younger roster than Houston.

@ It will still be OKC. The difference will be the fact that OKC's top guys have shooting and defense. That's pretty much a staple for their entire roster. Whereas Houston have defenders and shooters but not guys who are really great at both. I actually think that individually, Houston are more talented. Like Whitmore has a better chance of becoming a star than than Cason Wallace does. But Wallace is a much better fit as a 4th or 5th guy on a team with his defense and off ball shooting. And that goes for a lot of their guys. SGA is the clear 1 and the rest are amazing 2 guys and 3 guys and role player guys and off the bench guys whereas Houston have been grabbing highest upside guys in most of their high draft selections and working out the fit later.
@@SonnyK248actually agree with you on a lot of your points. I would contend that Jalen Green and Jabari Smith bring both defense and shooting. We'll see if Tari gets his shooting more consistent and Cam keeps giving effort on defense.
And I do think they fit perfectly together. All the talk lately is Amen v Jabari, but Amen is actually better as a replacement for Brooks or FVV.

1. Amen Thompson
2. Jalen Green
3. Tari Eason
4. Jabari Smith
5. Alp Sengun

The best comp I can think of is a younger Giannis. Great defenders, freak athletes, both operate around the rim and can playmake for others
Great comp but young Iguodala seems more accurate. Giannis is like 6’11 so he’s much more of a power forward/big play style

Amen is amazing. That said, Sengun opens things up for the team. Jalen is looking like he's going to be fine. And Jabari is probably the most slept on player on the team if not the league.
To say they don't have that "insert random star player over 28", yes you're right. They have a bunch of 22 year olds that could be that.
That doesn't even get into Tari, Cam Whitmore or Sheppard.
Amen is at his best when the ball is in his hands and he is flying into the paint and finishing or passing out

@@WarrenF19 i agree. i want ausar to be good so badly (it's not like he's been bad or anything). they have the same traits, strengths, weakness, literally they have the same genes, but something that stuck out to me is their demeanor off the court and how it translates onto the court. amen is way more aggressive and just plays harder. i understand ausar was getting off blood clots and currently isn't getting that many minutes, but i want him to play more like his brother because we know he can.

People are being too quick to jump to "best player" and all this bull. He is a great complementary player, but green and alpi are still more critical. But amen works great as a connector, and playing in the gaps alpi and green create for him.

You missed on this one Tucker. Amen Thompson is awful. He cant make a shot outside of 10ft from the basket. No jump shot at all he looks likes he's lost most of the time on the court. And defense? Defense? Just because no one plays defense now a days and you see a little bit of defense and thinks its great is way off. I appreciate him trying but he's just not that good. 🏀 🇺🇲
