Hello doctor, is this operation reversible? Like after 5 years they can remove the stitches? Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands

What's the likelihood of insurance covering esg, that's the only thing holding me back from scheduling

It takes time. It took many years for insurance to cover traditional bariatric surgery. For ESG, the first step was a randomized, controlled trial, which was completed and was met all endpoints. Next was FDA approval, which is now in place. Next step, a procedural CPT code is needed. That is a minimum of 2 years away. Then, Medicare needs to asses if they will cover it. Most private insurers follow Medicare’s lead. So, there are a lot of moving pieces. Stay tuned!

I've seen a physician prescribe phentermine and wegovy in conjunction with esg, is that standard?

There is definitely a push to use combination therapy in the field (such as ESG + Wegovy, or ESG + other meds); we are proponents of this in our program. However, this is typically only used when a patient needs to lose more than the average, or needs additional assistance along the way. It is by no means standard or universal.

Is it true that the stitches dissolve over time?

C Lo, the sutures are not dissolvable. They are permanent 2-0 prolene sutures. They will remain in the stomach wall long-term.
