Why are the prices of pets falling in Singapore?

  • Prices of pets like puppies and kittens have dropped by as much as 40 per cent. Pet stores say this is because people have less time and money for pets. Competition among stores is also driving prices down. But animal welfare organisations are warning against impulse buying, which could lead to abandoned pets.

It's time that those cut throats pet shop owners realize their greediness. Puppies and kittens were sold at exorbitant prices to the extent of ten of thousands. I hope the prices will come down to less than a thousand averagely like those days where you can get a pure breed puppy for $800.

My neighbor's children wanted a cat for a pet. Heard from his wife telling my wife that it cost a few thousands at the pet shop. So, one weekend her husband and I went down to the void deck, scoop up a stray, brought it to a pet groomer and then gave it to his children and said we got it at a pet shop at a discount😁

CNA’s opening statement “getting a furry companion is not as expensive….” objectifies these animals and reduces them to mere commodities. As an established news outlet, the news angle should be on responsible ownership and genuine love for animals, but this report seems like an announcement for cheap pets. It is disappointing.

Could be signs of money no enough and lowering on the Quality of Life.
These days, the pocket feels the pain. $100 go out like buy nothing.
Will we be able to cope when the price of gasoline hike to $4 per litre while India getting it at $1??

An animal companion is a lifelong responsibility. suggest going to your local shelter to adopt. The animals there deserve warm and loving homes.
