I'm very interested in learning composition. I'm an early-intermediate level pianist with only basic knowledge of music theory. What are the requirements for watching your lessons? What should I learn before tackling your material?
I know you touched on like ambiguity of like "is it A minor really?" in the start of the video and I just wanted to say that I've seen that harmonic ambiguity in a couple other Chopin pieces, especially between the relative major and minor (Waltz Op. 69 no. 1, is it in Ab major or F minor? I've seen it titled both ways, as Waltz in Ab and as Waltz in F minor) or in one really short Chopin mazurka, between two keys a fifth apart (Mazurka Op. 7 no. 5, is C major the tonic and it the G octaves it ends on the dominant or is G major the tonic and the C major that the melody first appears in the subdominant?).
Very good points. Chopin really explores this harmonic ambiguity in some of his pieces. Another example that I know is the opening of Balade no. 1 which starts with C and turns into A flat major triad as neapolitan of G minor.
