  • Let’s consider multing the pitch of a sequence and using it to sequence something else at the same time, to reinforce the shape of the sequence in our ears and minds: we can sequence timbre, LFO rates - even panning!

    Awesome demo, exactly what I’m dealing with right now, sort of expanding my Tape machine into a CV bus case with the new stereo modules.
    I like using a long LFO from Maths to pan two sequenced voices in opposite directions, sort of meeting in the middle and then passing each other.

      Sounds like good fun! Using a MATHS channel's two outputs would be an easy way for this "opposite direction" idea :)

    I love to use pitch to set the note length between steps (with maths) so lower notes take longer than higher notes.

    Really love how conceptual you approach these things. It interests me more than simply showing a modules features

    Multing your pitch sequence via a buffered mult, then patching attenuverters between the mutls and open inputs to anything will work. The attenuverters allow each input to be modulated subtley. Though kudos to modules that include them on inputs. You can also use an attenuverter with an offset to trigger an OR gate in a logic module. You can use the offset and attenuverter to align the voltages to trigger the gate open or closed. You can use it to do something like bring a wavefolder in and out theough a vca. You csn also connect your second sequence to your logic unit and experiment with AND, NOR, or whatever else is in the comparator output.

    I like playing with sequencing pitch and other things regularly (and DPO makes it easy as you pointed out at 1:42). It's the biggest reason I have a buffered mult in my rack. because while the idea is fun, I have to be careful that the pitch CV still tracks nicely. In a MakeNoise-exclusive system, that's not as much of a problem, as Tony pointed out recently because MN modules have "a wide fanout" a.k.a. more milliamps coming out of the outputs combined with low milliamp usage required for the inputs.

    Very cool use of stereo! Would love to see the 0-Ctrl paired with the Morphagene if possible!

    Lovely stuff. This is one of my favourite things to do with stereo when I'm sequencing (alas, most of my stuff is done "in the box") but it's absolute luscious sounding on this system.
    Oh, and before I forget... Oof!

    like using rene to sequence a square wave osc in lfo range acting as a clock. then use the quantizer to switch on+off notes to generate a clock that fluctuate in chromatic(?) intervals to drive a rhythmic/percussive patch. much fun :))

    I often sequence filter cutoff frequency and resonance. Whatever can be cv controlled in a module is worth trying out. The results can often be surprising!

    Hey there. Are there more Renes coming down the pipeline? It seems like they're sold out everywhere I look. At least at stores in my part of the world.

    Hey Walker do you offer substitutes when buying the B&G system? Like if one wanted to switch out something like you have here adding the QPAS? Thank you for both education and entertainment

      Yes if you buy system direct from Make Noise we can do custom systems.

    it's funny you have chosen this technic, cause I find my self using sequencers to modulate parameters more and more in the last few months. Sometimes LFOs are great but sequences can modulate in a more complex but phrase-like manner. I don't know if that makes any sense.

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 года назад +2

      Definitely makes sense! A sequencer is an arbitary function generator!

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 года назад +7

      Quadrophonic is possible (and fun!) but gets pretty hairy in patching, requires a custom playback system, and can't be played back on RUclips, so we won't be able to really showcase it here. My coworker Eric "Rodent" Cheslak and I did a quadrophonic performance at Black Mountain College Museum & Arts Center a couple years back: walkerfarrell.bandcamp.com/album/the-future-leaks-out

    Is it too bizarre to consider René2 as a sort of 16 steps function generator?

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 года назад +1

      Nothing is too bizarre! And yeah I would be down with that, after all Don Buchla called his sequencers "arbitrary function generators"

    • @Bauzmann
      @Bauzmann 3 года назад

      @@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Indeed! And the concept of "sequencing the sequence" reminds me Ciani's Vertical sequencing found in the Buchla concerts, performed with the Marf.

    • @Bauzmann
      @Bauzmann 3 года назад

      I think René can do vertical sequencing natively. Marf was linear, while René has X and Y, so Z would be the new vertical.

    How can we build a “popularity over the decades” cv in?!

  • @zhartruse8359
    @zhartruse8359 3 года назад +1

    A more obvious one is to sequence the filter as you would the oscillator, but not mirrored. Rene mk2, QPAS and or an MMG or QMMG would be a good combination to experiment with in conjunction with a static DPO sequence. It's all about layers.

    i like to have one master sequence acting as a sort of velocity layer for multiple different voices, that way i can give a bunch of sequences the same sort of ebb and flow. even if i have say a 9 note pitch sequence going against a 7 note pitch sequence, controlling the cutoff of their respective filters with an 8 or 16 note sequence will give them a locked in on the grid feel that plays nice with all my other more grooveboxy equipment. i stole the idea from how older drum machines do velocity, especially the 909
