His mom flipped out to the principal and he basically gave me the choice between the pink slip or giving the kid some kind of assignment worth the 12% overall grade, so he could graduate. So I told him to research Percy Julian and give me a 5-page biography on him. He not only did a decent paper, he thanked me for introducing him to the chemist's story.
I'll never understand these parents. I have a son with autism. I'm in his face everyday about doing his work in class and getting him to complete his homework. My son is profoundly disabled. If my son has an "autistic flare up" at school, I'm told about it right away and brought into the principles office. In your story, the parent had a star quarterback son that failed and at the end of the school year she shows up to bitch to the principal? Really! I have 0 sympathy for parents of typically developing children that can't do the minimum when I work my ass off 24/7 just so my child can be around these losers.

Meanwhile you've got administrators constantly pressuring you to implement "academic rigor" to get kids to test well, but when you try to hold them to account for their performance (never mind their behavior), they don't back you up. I can't even call the job "hard"; it's literally undoable. And that's why almost no teachers stay more than 5 years now.

Sure, there are some Berber people, maybe some Sudanese or Ethiopian people too, who look a little more light skinned, kind of like Keye and Peele. But most of the "light skinned" people in the USA, are just part white. If you go to the ancestral homeland of black Americans (Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali. . .) you'll see that they look very different from African Americans.
