    I'm somewhat lazy and skipped most of these steps. I sometimes toss plant-based food scraps into my raised beds and must've disposed of papaya scraps at some point because around six new-to-me sprouts started taking off. Google Lens identified them as papaya. They're 6 to 8 feet tall now and have been flowering for about a year but no fruit yet. Hopefully that changes soon. 🤞

      You need male and female plants close by to pollinate or the self pollinating seeds you have to identify them when they are seeds usually I think you have a female plant if it doesn’t grow fruit within 11 months on his own it’s not self pollinating and you need a male plant so your female plant will be pollinated and grow fruit

      F1 seeds is a good seeds to grow but cannot guaranteed to bear fruits. But it is a better chance to bear fruits. To know it is male or female seed you need to soak the seed in water and the seed sinks down, it is the female seed, while the floating seed is the male seed

    How can we tell that the papaya we planted is a female?

    • @v87garden
      @v87garden  2 года назад +85

      Good question, easy to know male or female papaya. Before planting, soak the seeds for 20 minutes, and the seeds that fall below are the female seeds and the seeds that float on top are the male seeds.

    • @chukwuemerie
      @chukwuemerie 2 года назад +14

      @@v87garden How are you sure? I know that floating seeds are unhealthy, not necessarily male.

      @@v87garden Sorry, but this isn't really accurate!!
      Floating seeds mean that they probably have less nutrients.
      the only time to tell that if papaya is bisexual, female, or male is when they flower, more or likely not, the papaya that you buy will most likely be bisexual!!

    • @v87garden
      @v87garden  2 года назад +2

      When the seed is soaked and the seed sinks down, it is the female seed, while the floating seed is the male seed.
