  • Following a new genre of combining street art / murals with animated film, "live painting," and installation art, the artists and crew of Cosmic Terrarium transformed an empty, weed-infested lot in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia during the 2010 Live Arts / Fringe Festival.
The result was a visual spectacle, with paint and found objects documented by still photography, edited into this time lapse video. The team, including muralists and street artists from Philadelphia and Paris, worked over a two-week period (Sept. 3 - 17, 2010) and visually riffed off one another in a group painting "improvisation." Their multi-layered compositions evolved in a very organic fashion, with imagery influenced by cave painting, Pop Art, graffiti, and psychedelic art.
