Pere Marquette Railway N-1 Class 2-8-4 "Berkshire" #1225 was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1941, one of 39 locomotives of the wheel arrangement that the railway had purchased for mixed traffic use in the heartlands of Michigan. The engine managed to escape the torch and later became a static display engine on the Michigan State University campus. Eventually a group of students found interest in the locomotive, and began their own efforts to restore the engine to operational condition. The Lima Berk saw her first steam since retirement in 1975. Since then, the engine has became both a preservation icon, as well as a movie star, having been used as the basis for the 2004 CGI movie "The Polar Express".
Today, she continues to see service as an excursion engine for the Steam Railroading Institute, based in Owosso, Michigan, pulling passengers on seasonal trips on the Grate Lakes Central Railroad. In this video, we see the engine at the head of a passenger photo charter hosted by Lerro Photography, which offered some rare photographic opportunities with actors and props on the Great Lakes Central. Now, please enjoy this exciting video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions and Lerro Photography!
This video was filmed on January 12th and 13th, 2019.
"IT'S A MAGIC CARPET ON A RAIL, NEVER TAKES A REST, FLYING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS AND THE STARS!"
you can ride for free and join the fun if you just say yes, 'cause that's the way things happen on the polar express!
@@penguinmaster7 whoo whoo, the whistle blows, that's the sound of her singing! Ding ding the bell will ring, golly look at her go!
You wonder if we'll get there soon, anybody's guess, 'cause that's the way things happen on the Polar Express!
Flying through the mountains and the snow*
LIGHTS ARE GLEEMING FAR ACROSS THE SNOW YOUR NOT DREAMING MAY I PRESENT THE NORTH POLE!
2:28 Ahh, one of my favorite sounds in the world! A steam locomotive chugging at high speed! I can’t explain the sheer joy I feel from hearing that sound coming down the track!
It’s really cool to see 1225 pulling a set of matching coaches in that color scheme
@@emeriomanzano5015 where can we even get any Heavyweight coaches that are still in working order
This sound is so amazing, like a race horse on its best lab!
Such a beautiful engine! 🚂
This has to be one of the most impressive videos featuring 1225 I've seen in a while. Thank you for doing this.
You can feel the chill in the air and the heat coming off that beast.
This is one of the best railfan videos I have ever seen. The cinematography, the audio, the staging of the truck at the crossings. Having graduated from film school at NYU I see so many clear elements that I was taught being executed flawlessly. Well done to the crew on this job, I only wish I had been there haha
I love the on train footage. 10:33 is my favorite shot.
Cullen Tabaczynski p
That's pretty nice.
Idk why but it really feels like footage that whould have been taken from the PE
Excellent work! Great cinematography! You definitely did the 1225 justice here! I am astonished this doesn't have more views... WOW!
That is the best looking train in the world, and will always be my personal favorite!
Very nice video! I love the cinematic feel you were able to create. Well done.
I’m a Huge fan
Saa was
My one year old daughter left the previous comment, she loves steam engine 1225. It’s the only one she will watch
M
Mike Armstrong I am a big fan of you I can’t believe you watch this video to
Been in love since the Polar Express. It doesn't get better than this!
This is my favorite Berkshire that still operates. Sounds beautiful and looks magnificent with the coaches that match its road.
Incredible Winter Steam..... BEEEYOOTIFUUL VIDEO!! Two pretty "Tough Ponies" the 1225 and the Chevy Pickup!! (Brings back lotsa memories, as a teen I once owned a '49 GMC--tough as a Tank!)
Oh yeah, this is definitely going on my bucket list...
11:04 could be a Christmas card circa 1952. Beautiful
Ironic since Polar Express takes place around that time.
@@ncopictures7182 This is also the same model of train
This proves the Berkshires really would've made fine passenger engines as well as freight engines!
Great video! The makers were able to take the viewer back in time, to a place that lives within every rail fan’s heart.
I have personally been on this train about three years ago and it was one of the best experiences in my life it was amazing to see something like that especially because I’m only 16 and that’s something I probably won’t see a lot more of. I love collecting Lionell trains and I love especially steam trains I just think they’re so cool if you ever get the chance to take a ride on this beautiful Ironhorse I recommend you do so
Awesome video man I’m glad she’s still running I’m loving the whistle on her it’s good she’s still running I hate seeing her on display she’s awesome under steam ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Me and my little cousin who both like trains and The Polar Express were watching this together and we both absolutely love it. Keep up the great work!
1:34 It looks like the Polar Express ice scene but it's on the track
TRACKS. DEAD AHEAD! Lol
@@lsx7177 PORT ASTERN!!!

Quite a solid way to start off the Steam Season of 2019!
Downright beautiful!
Great stuff Chad! Love the in cab shots of the engineer and his silhouette.

Fantastic. These really do a great job recreating the past.
Such a beautiful locomotive, probably one of my favorites. Nice video! Really awesome shots in this!

Me: Trains are beautiful.
Trains: Thank you.

I love the Pere Marquette 1225 The Real Polar Express I wish I can see her in real life
Steam Railroad Institute, Google it, & try to arrange a trip to see it. It IS worth it!
This Is The Polar Express!
Pere Marquette 1225 my favorite train!
It's because it's based of the Polar Express
"Seeing is believing, but, sometimes, the most real things in the world are the things we can't see."
I like the Pere Marquette 1225 😁
Thank you Blue Comet. The Pere Marquette 1225 it's back in to action on Michigan.
This video going in my fav train seens bucket for sure!!!
Such nice shots... my favorites are in the cab, and on the roof, though the run by shots come verrrrrrrry close.
I hope this engine never stops running don't you agree
I love the Pere Marquette 2-8-4 1225 steam Locomotive
Dude those shots that you took from the ground were amazing! These are some of the best steam videos I’ve ever watched! Good job man, keep it up!
It was a wonderful train🌟
The real polar express
Awesome shots! Really cool to see the engine working hard and love the visuals of each setting.
That locomotive is just as loud as its whistle
Great! I would really love to go see it someday.
Wow this is Very Big Steam Train
Yeah PM 1225 was built by Lima locomotive works in 1941
Impressive shots!
Great work, as always
You are a very good photographer I love all these low shots that you do they look awesome we see all the valve gear and the undercarriage of the train and a different perspective really enjoyed the video and loved the lack of music some of these railfan videos get annoying with music I watch a steam locomotive locomotives video to listen to a steam locomotive thank you very enjoyable video keep up the great work peace out have a great day
Superb video production both in filming, editing foregrounds, backgrounds and train interiors etc. A lot of effort went into this. Well done.
The lady of a Michigan. Thanks for uploading this Chad! This is fantastic!
(I know your name from rrpicturearchives)....
The REAL Polar Express!
That amazing!
Look at you gettin' them cab rides! Nice work, Chad. I'm sure the cold was worth it.
Really great video!
Hot! Hot! Oh We Got it! Hot! Hot! Yeah We Got It! Hot! Hot! Yo We Got It! HOT CHOCOLATE!
That Was The Polar Express Song
Hey! Thanks for the ride! 😊.

Beautiful Vid! Well Done! Exciting. Diverse.
Very Nicely Done!

*kids singing polar express*
Oh yes.. The Polar Express.. ALL ABOOOOOOARDDD
Spectacular footage! What a beautiful train she is.😍
All aboard!!!
Nice video 😀😀😀
2:20 I love how she's sounds like a horse running
This is my 3rd favorite steam locomotive (UP's Big Boy and Challenger are Numbers 1 and 2, respectively).
Would love to see a Steam Extravaganza event at the Steam Railroading Institute with 765, 1225, 611, 425 and 1551 in the future, that'll be awesome!
Easier said than done
Me tooooo!!
Wow... just, wowwwwwww...
I love how all of the passenger cars are all the same. Just like the PE. But no observation car.
I don't think the Steam Railroading institute has an observation coach
How are people getting cab rides?
It looks cool from the side
This puts a lump in my throat.
This question goes out to those who are up to date on the PM 1225. What is her current (as I make this comment) whistle? I plan on adding sound to my model version of her and want to know which one to use. If it isn’t on the decoder I’m just gonna throw my go to whistle on her.
Since this is the same loco from polar express the number 1225 could mean december 25th
As had been pointed out:. this IS the Polar Express!
She's starting to look like she might be in need of a repainting in my eyes. But definitely a great start of the year for SRI!
The Polar Express
This is the polar express on its regular job
Noticing the valve events in this video are more even than they have been in past videos. Have the valve events (admission, cut off, release, compression) been re - timed? Also sounds like they were running a lot in full forward gear, rather than "hooking up" and using steam expansively.
I love the pere marquette locomotive its the real polar express so why not
powerful
Well done. What type of video camera do you use?
I hope you guys can get some nice western footage some time. 4449 would look great through your cameras!
Golly, look at her go!
You should check out the Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint, Michigan
that bobblehead @7:40 looks kind of eerie like almost voodoo or possessed
when i wach this video i play "last train home in the next window over
As of this comment, 1225 is now 80 years old
K
If they ever do a live action polar express 1225 on shulyer street would be epic
I think it would be cool if they paint some passenger cars in the Polar Express paint scheme to match the locomotive
When Madame the blueberry petunia and mr.Lunt can go to 1225 pere Marquette
What's with the green pickup at almost every crossing
i think he is also taking pictures as well with them.
