Glorious. We run with our Vizsla and he has done ultra marathon races with me and regularly run 30+ km with us. But human running pace is merely a fast paced walk for these dogs. Off leash would never work though, he likes the wild animals far to much. I have always been mountain biking and will try with a flexi leash in some way as I dont want him to pull me out of control.

I am an ultrarunner and planning to get a Visla puppy ,planning to train him so when he is old enough he can be a running partner. So how do you run with him 30+ k, all the time with a leash?
How much water do you take him for 30k+?

Yes, I have a Non-stop Cani-X belt and bungee leash, when he's running his mindset is "work". We started serious running when he was about 18 months old - as i wrote human pace is not really fast for a Vizsla. Water depends on the weather, I carry a small soft bottle for him for 15-20k runs, he drinks from the bottle. On longer runs I try to plan so there are water taps available en route and have a soft bowl to drink from. This is if its summer and warm (20-25 deg celcius or more), other parts of the year he can run 15k without drinking. Also a swim here and there is good in hot weather! AND be aware that the Vizsla is really high energy and you need to exercise every day. An understimulated dog is not fun, but a happy Vizsla is a real couch potato at home.

4:30 On those tight switch backs, I think you can go up much higher on the wall before the turn. Unless there's trees in the way you can go of the trail so that you dive down into the turn and you'll take them much faster with more speed. Even those turns with quite steep walls from the digging, go up above them way before the turn. Start slow and easy to get used to it and then you'll see it'll be much faster.

Run my Rodehesian Ridgeback we only do a slow jog for 6km, but she is on a leash. I always worry I will overdo it. What are your thoughts between the two? Thanks in advance.

Puedes amarrar a tu perro del caballo de la bicicleta para que no te tumbe y poco a poco lo vas soltando y el correrá a tu lado en RUclips hay un video.
Lo voy a buscar para que lo veas y poder darte el nombre del video

i see that i'm a little late but i started mine in a modified camel back at 6 weeks old, carried him until he was 8 or 9 weeks old and let him run until he got tired and carried him home, by the time he was 3 months old he could heel, i couldn't carry him anymore and he was hooked

    May I ask
How many kilometres the dog can handle the trail?
Any rest for the 🐶? Concern over heat issue
Plan to try with my border collie.
    Pls advice

Hi, in our region there is always a mixture of up and down. In the video the most uphill sections are skipped. The rest section for Emma is the uphill part.
The water issue is something you need to consider. I plan my trips in the way that Emma can drink something in the middle of a 10km trip.
In general the dog needs to be trained step by step, which means 2km then 4km, 6km ... 10km trips. And it depends for sure on the dog breed.
      Have fun.
      Regards
      Christian

Vizlas are one of the fastest dogs in the world, around 70km/h they can definitely run all day with the right training.
Border colies are farm dogs, youll have no problem with them, they have amazing endurance, they can chase sheep and catle in mountain terrains all day too.

@@therealfinlay how do you know this mate? All the Vizslas I've seen are nowhere near that speed. They actually time different breeds in a competition in the US and the Vizslas come out with similar speeds to other pointers and retrievers. It doesn`t make sense that one of the best middle distance dogs could also be one of the best sprinters. Mo Farah couldn't reach a world championship 100m final, after all! 😉

@@markrichards473 Statistically Hungarian visuals are the 4th fastest dog breed in the world, They average around 64KP have been recorded at 70KPH, they are faster than border collies and the fastest pointing breed. Size doesn't really matter just look at Jack Russell terriers they are also in the top 10 fastest dog breeds in the world capable of sprinting at over 45KPH. I can't speak for all vizslas obviously they are all different but I can personally say that I have been travelling at over 30 kph on an ebike and a vizsla has blitz passed me like I was standing still. I have had collies on the farm I grew up on and I've paced them on a quad at 50 kph so obviously all stats are not the same because when you look at the top 10 list collies only travel at 30 miles per hour or 48Kph.
