  • They make clear Plasti Dip! So I tested it out on EVA foam with three different paints: Basics acrylic (brush on), Krylon Fusion, and Montana Gold Acrylic (aerosol).

    I know it's been years but thank you for the video. Was looking for any info if Montana Gold will work on foam and happy to see you used it as an example. Thank you!

    Thank you very much for an informative video. I'm working on making robot claw gloves for a robot costume I'm trying to get finished for Halloween. I'm planning to make the gloves out of foam rubber and then seal it with plasti dip. Plastidip now makes a silver Metalizer product, so I'm going to spray the gloves with black plasti dip and then the silver, and hopefully they will be flexible enough for me to pick up beer bottles and what not, while still looking a lot like metal.

      John Clavis Very cool! I have used the metalizer product as well. I found that topcoating with the mat clear plastidip makes for a more convincing finish.

    Awesome selection:) May I suggest you find a silicone modified elastermeric acyrlic membrane, such as they use to coat and seal roof tiles. Google aztek paints in australia, just to use as a referance for your local supplier of a similar product. Great by itself, but havent tried topcoating it clear plastidip. great Vid!

    Hi, what was the best result with the black acrylic paint? Did you do the black plasti dip, followed by black acrylic and then clear plastic dip? Please let me know what order you used them in. Thanks!

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  10 лет назад

      If you need a black base coat, you can just use the black plasti dip.

    Where can I get large sheets of this EVA Foam?

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  10 лет назад

      For thick EVA (1/4 to 1/2 inch) you can use shop floor mats/anti-fatigue mats. Most hardware stores & big box shops with a tool department will carry them. Most of the time they will be interlocking squares, 1/2 inch thick, with some kind of texture or pattern on one side. Sometimes you can find a roll that is 1/4 inch thick as well, but less places carry that. I usually buy mine from Harbor Freight or Big Lots. For thin EVA, you can buy sheets or rolls at any craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnne's, etc.)

      I got a 6 pack of floor mats for $20 from Walmart. Look in fitness sections too for the floors mats

      Just in case anyone viewing this video has an interest, there is EVA foam available online also in the 3/4 inch thickness, and possibly even 1 inch. (I searched for 1" thick EVA foam on Amazon.) Looking at the dollars-per-cubic-inch price, they appear to be on the pricier side though, at least by a little. Might be more worth it to just glue 1/2" sheets together if it's structurally compatible with the intended usage.

      I work at Michaels and you can get the thinnest craft foam (2 or 3mm I believe?) in black or white in a 3ft x 5ft roll. I'm doing a costume now using it and the white has been useful for when I've needed to dip and paint large continuous foam pieces.

    Is this clear plastidip or the plastidip glossier?

    Do you get bubbles when you use plasti dip?

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  9 лет назад

      zupinu2000 Not usually. I have gotten a weird bubbly texture before when I laid down the plasti dip too thick. Try doing lighter coats.

    Garrick Backer how thick are the EVA foam sheets that you use?

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  9 лет назад

      Depending on the project i use 1/2in, 1/4in, 1/8th and 1/16 in. The half and quarter in are anti fatigue mats and the smaller ones are craft foam sheets.

      Garrick Backer ah ok, thank you! :0
      because i have some 1/2in EVA foam mats and i was just hoping it wasn't too thick. i'm making a cosplay of a robot character so, you know, everyone is saying to use EVA foam, but no one ever talks about the thickness. >:/
      is 1/2in the kind you're using in this video?

    I made a foam sword and want to find a way to keep it reinforced to prevent bending and damage. got any recommendations on what I should do?

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  8 лет назад

      hmmm.... Its more difficult to reinforce after its already built. You can look into Smooth-On Epsilon epoxy, which is designed to coat foam in a ridged shell.

      LARP weapons use layers of latex over foam, which is then painted, and then layers of Isoflex Special Primer. Be super-careful if you go with this method though - I've hospitalised myself with Isoflex. The warnings on the can are there for a reason.

      +Penniwhistle Thanks for the info guys I just reinforced it a while back. I'm Also planning on making a new one for the heck of it now that I have free time.

    Does the clear plastidip remain slightly sticky or tacky after it's all dried? I've painted my EVA foam armor and I want to put a protective clear coat overtop everything. My current issue is that when the painted pieces are touching for long periods of time (such as sitting in a box overnight) they become stuck together and when I seperate them, the paint will sometimes come off. I'm wondering if the clear plastidip will help prevent this. I'm also considering future finish.

    • @KnowOnesDesigns
      @KnowOnesDesigns  9 лет назад

      The mat clear plastidip will help cut down on the tac from the paint, but you also have to watch how hot it guys in the car. You could use tissue paper between the parts when you store them as well.
