Great observation, this makes me want to rethink the ENTIRE thumbnail process to come up with geat designs thank you so much for sharing this
Cheers from Brazil!
Thank you!
Wow, incredible composition class on the master. Very instructive. Thanks!
Thanks! I try to use this method when I do illustrations
I just found this video and its fascinating to me! Ill make sure to check out the rest of your content as soon as I can, but for now you have one new grateful subscriber! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much!
It looks to me like the circle is meant to be the focal point of the composition So in the last one, you got it wrong; the circle is the burst of light behind Kurt Russell. He's trying to draw our attention to the star of the movie.
Thank you for sharing what you've observed. I really appreciate it.
Thank you!
Very insightful!
gracias, tus observaciones ayudan un monton
Ive been using this as a reference method; the rectangles aren't always straight up or across
That’s awesome!
I'm going to try this too.
Part of this is a commercial need for somebody scanning images in a periodical or online of movie posters to quickly pick up on the idea of the film, and the subject matter and a lot of Dru’s paintings are laid out similar to how we naturally scan a page or an image for information about it. I’m not sure this is so much his own technique as it is done for commercial and marketing purposes
Very Nice!
Thank you!
Might this also be the GOLDEN RATIO??? let me know what you think. Thank you!
I didn’t know he did the Ducktales poster!
Yes, I didn’t know that either until I saw it in his book.
Who is a good non-computer copy cat /student/emulator ?
I don’t know the answer to that one, but thanks for watching!
Hey James do you if these 80’s movie and video game cover art work were done all by hand with digital effects added or was it some type of 80’s software used back then?? The reason I ask is because a lot of modern movie posters and art work tries to replicate that vintage look yet it looks completely artifical or modern digital yet does not have that true athentic vintage feel…. I wonder if its a mix of film photography with some type of manual touch up effect or some type of vintage digital effect
It was all done by hand back in the 80s. There were no digital affects at all back in the 80s. Thank you!
@@jamesthomas1123 Wowi appreciate it! By any chance do you know of any current artists that can replicate this look that work on a budget? I would like to get some art work done.
