    I've started making rubble out of plaster sheets. Simply pour casting plaster on to a flat tray to a depth between 1-3mm and let it set solid overnight. Snap the sheet into smaller pieces and chuck into a sandwich bag and bash the shit out of it. It'll give lovely flat slabs as well as rubble and dust.
    Alternatively, smashing natural slate repeatedly with a hammer gives lovely slabs and dust that looks a lot like shattered masonry when it's painted

    • @TheImmersiveWorldCrafter
      @TheImmersiveWorldCrafter  3 года назад

      Yes, I use both of these methods if I want to mimic concrete rubble or shattered masonry/scale slate pathways

    This was just incredibly inspiring, thank you!
    As for making battlespice from scratch, I wonder if cutting little rubber bands (the kind kids use to make bracelets) in small pieces and heating them in the owen to make them brittle (like aged rubber bands) would bring the coloured elements to add to cut sprues and bits; maybe also cutting and smashing lego pieces...

      @@TheImmersiveWorldCrafter i tried the rubber band thing, the oven does not work, it melts it after hardening it, and I don't think it is easy to fix the precise time/temperature conditions to leave them hardened and brittle without much experiencing which would be too costly; I left them instead in the fridge at -24 C for weeks, we'll see...

      Gert, dude, I cannot be taken shopping anymore because I spend too long looking at textures of stuff I could use in terrain. I bring rubbish home, I don’t throw away any rubbish, and riffle through the recycling bin for more textures and bits!

    This is disgusting and I love it. Makes me think I need to build yet another urban tabletop! The under-tile suggestion is a good one; I'm thinking of the trash compactor scene from Star Wars...
    You could add some bullet casings to your 'spice; mix if you wanted to imply a higher intensity of firefight in some of the corners of the battlefield, and are cheap and easy to mass produce using pasta (I've got a short video on my channel covering this). Keen for your next project mate

    How do you paint the rubbish piles? Is it not really time consuming? I noticed the #battlespice has coloured bits in it, are they just different coloured plastic parts or pre-painted?

    • @TheImmersiveWorldCrafter
      @TheImmersiveWorldCrafter  3 года назад +2

      It was actually very fast. I primed it grey and then thickly coated in black contrast paint all over. I then chose yellow, green, red, and brown contrast paints and painted into sporadic areas whilst the black was wet and let all the colours merge and mottle. This gives you a great base to start from. I picked out some pieces with vibrant and primary colours using enamels. Once dry, I gloss varnished the lot and then applied an oil wash over the colours only. A few hours later I removed some of the oil wash with thinners and modelling cue tips to reveal the colours from beneath the grime. Very fast to get done.

      @@TheImmersiveWorldCrafter ok. I could see that could work. I will give it a try. Thanks for putting the plastic bag thing on this too. I had seen it elsewhere, maybe FB, but I couldn't find or remember what size to do.

    • @TheImmersiveWorldCrafter

      As the battlespice is proprietary content designed by another creator who details this within his Patreon I can’t disclose what it is made from. I have provided details to his account. You can get creative though and make something similar with odd bits of collected plastics.
