Today, Tavarish fits the new Lexus IS-F engine onto the SC300 subframe, it fits, sort of. As it turns out, this will be much harder than we once though.

Freddy's phone pinging away the entire episode, totally ignoring Jareds texts of "don't take anything apart until I get there".
😂
I was just imagining Jared waking up in a cold sweat after having a nightmare about walking into Freddy’s workshop to find everything strewn across that impractical floor! LOL
What's with the bots?
every time his phone went off I looked at my phone thinking it was mine pinging drove me nuts lol
Freddy fixing, makes Jared do double work! :D
MVP of the Episode: The wooden pallet that the 2JZ was sitting on; that thing was lifted and twisted all over the place but stayed strong. Good job Wooden Pallet, good job my friend.
"This worked better in my head..." the story of my life.
Yeah, I felt that.
Yeah same here, everything i do and say worked better in my head🤪
This video should be titled "tavarish talks while triying to drop an engine on his foot for 21 minutes"
That was never going to happen.
@@mbsnyderc you must be fun at parties
Got those steel-toed deck shoes one
The second he said Jared wasn't around you should expect no real progress was going to happen.
@@johnkilo3 HAHAHAHA!! Yup!
I like where this project is going...we'll see how long they go at it before it is forgotten like the 300zx, the honda limo, lotus.....etc..
And that's just this channel. There's still a manual SL55 that has yet to be finished.
I miss the lotus
I thought Jared mentioned that they need to get those projects to Florida. If you watch the lotus vids they were from a while ago, the lounge wasn’t even done when they were being filmed. So, maybe some more lotus content soon.
"We're gonna have to weld or fabricate a bracket"
Nik from Bad Obsession Motorsport just felt a happy tingle.
Al from the skid factory likes a good mount too
So long as he uses CAD and breaks out the level that “makes the noise”
@@sparky4878 *bbbeeeeeeeeeeepppp*
Rich is going to get the funk out too!
10:43 That Supra back end!
IT was nice that Jerid went and helped Deric VGG
Hopefully Derick drops in on them next time he is in FL.
Yes, Freddy, a hospital trip is NOT to be encouraged.
This is the kind of project I love, but all the little issues you may be about to encounter are also giving me anxiety, hahaha.
That anxiety is what the Tavarish content is all about.
Let’s just hope the next video isn’t “I bought a new car” and doesn’t come back to this
Yaaaasss das is goood
Hurry up Aaron and get back onto the V10 Subaru you lazy bastard. 😛
(Saying this knowing I have Crustida to finish myself. 🤣)
@@MafiaboysWorld Hahaha you right. 😬 I have been making progress! 😁
Hot tip for lifting engines onto/off of things that don't fit with the engine hoist... Use an arm on the two-post lift to lift the engine. The hoist is really only suited for from-the-top install/removal. If you have the option to lift it with ANYTHING else, do it.
Jared would be proud, at the same time it sounds like he is texting you frantically during the whole video.
Balancing an engine on a pallet with a car jack in freakin' slippers? I'm gonna need some therapy hours after watching that. I love this project, just watch your feet, please...
Flip the mounts from side to side (it moves them backwards) and flip them upside down and see how much that helps
Can't you get that Bendpak, that gave you all those lifts, to get you an overhead gantry crane? It would make it so much easier to swing those engines around.
10:43 That Supra
17:59 Flip the mount! see if it works
Try using the passanger mount on the driver side and driver side mount on the passenger side. Should bolt right up and could move the bolt hole back enough to use the stock mount because they seem tapered forward. Worth the try seeing you have them
Super appropriate shop footwear for moving around heavy engines Freddie. :)
You need Chris to loan you Oscar for a week.
15:00 why not remove the pallet and use a trolley jack to maneuver the subframe
17:55 FLIP THE MOUNT should be lined up with the hole!
So stoked for this build tbh.
And with each episode the tension rises.
Great seeing you work on it alone, lovin’ the labor and sketch. Reminds me of the Gallardo build. 💪🏼
bolt up the SC trans cross member to the IS auto, lift the engine into place make sure the engine/bellhousing join is in the right place then offer up the subframe and build the mounts otherwise you will be making a transmission mount for no reason
You should look into a Bridgeport end mill. If you try and weld the cast aluminum it will break quickly.
I'll be dipped! Love that Jared helped out Derek
I have never seen an old exhaust manifold come off so easy without breaking bolts or anything else that was amazing👍🏻
Love the ventilated shorts Freddie, also the Honda Beat.
Have you finished any project or just good at starting new ones? Can you finish 1 and let us know what you do with it afterwards?
Make steel mounting brackets to bolt onto the block.
If the motor mount brackets have the same bolt pattern on both sides, try swapping them left to right, it might move the holes close enough together to use the stock ISF mounts on that subframe (without all that pesky fabrication you’re planning on)
take the mounts and flip them upside down and then switch sides.... it looks like it would fit
You and Jared should write out and post a step-by-step (if successful) should anyone attempt this in the future. Parts list, fabrication details, tools necessary, etc.
I'm sure nobody said it was impossible, that tittle is just a Tavarish special! 😂😂
Probably because no one ever thought to do it. Everyone is always like, "Put an LS in that!" As if no other V8 engines exist.
Maybe give some thought to a shop crane. Doesn't have to be fancy, just a beam on a post that swings and a winch or chainfall hung on it. Take a look at Puddin's Fab Shop for an example in his garage.
The fact you do things by yourself that others need 2-3 people is really great! Nice to have my coffee watching these stuff! What about the black Supra behind? Did I miss anything?
freddy swap the engine mount brackets from left to right then they will line up with your rubber mounts as the offset will be in reverse cheers from down under
That effect around 5:15 made me thing that video was corrupted during upload
Or recovered
It was actually some sort of weird digital artifact written into the file by the GoPro. No idea why, and no way to fix it in post :) -Duane the Editor
@@decaharms need some Duane the editor message breaks during the videos those are always funny
Thanks Plumbaman! I normally try to stay out of it as much as I can unless there’s a glaring need to jump in and add my two-cents worth. I guess I’m sort of the Wizard of Oz guy who moves the levers and buttons behind the scenes and only comes out of hiding when needed :). But I DO have a very tiny cameo coming up in the next video...
@@decaharms cool. Looking forward to the next one
Hi Tarvarish nice video 📹 and workmanship the car is nice also !!
Would using the subframe or mounts for an SC400 be helpful here? I don't actually know how different if at all the 1JZ cars are from the 1UZ cars
I really love this build, I'm so happy you're enjoying it as much or more than we are ^_^
Come on 300K!!! :)

and now we know this divorce was real.. We haven't seen them together in any videos lately, the Cartrek vid was old. Sadly, They may be on the splits..
9:24 Choose your own adventure....sounds like a great spinoff blooper channel :)
Tavarish you are such an inspiration. The things u do we dream of doing.
Flip the mounts from left side of motor to right side of motor if that won't work make a new mount out of cardboard to mock it up . Then you will have a prototype you can copy .
When is this coming back?? I was really excited to see this project go on and be done and then you guys just stopped it!! If u have to buy it from tavarish so it can actually be finished and not forgotten!!
Don't mod the subframe, at least not to mount the engine (IE don't change the mounting location on the subframe) It'll be easier and more reliable to build mounts off thoseengine brackets (IE replace the engine brackets with fabricated ones). You'll be able to use measurements to get the engine centered and you can push the engine up and back into the engine bay to clear the rearward part of the subframe, or you can push it back and down while trimming the subframe to make it sit under the hood and in the firewall better.
I'm excited for this project too
Remember Honda Rhousey?
Did you try just flipping the engine mounts over? At 18:23, it looks pretty close. it's hard to tell if the 4 bolt holes are set in a full rectangular pattern, but if they are the mount looks pretty close to alignment with the hole in the subframe.
if the motor mounts on the ISF motor are mirrored, swap the motor mounts to the other side to see if it helps. Works on a bunch of engines, curious to see if it works on this one.
Liked this video, good job Freddie. And as much as I like the LS engines, thank you for not making an SC-LS.
So close to 300k!
When is the Maxima content coming?
Anyone suggested using the mounts for the 1UZ-FE, the SC300 also came with a 4L V8 from the factory.
Is it possible to flip the mount over, add a puck and drill a new hole in the mount? It looks like it almost would line up?
i really enjoyed my sc300. they're built like tanks and classy as hell.
If often working alone, get a "rolling A frame" with an electric winch/hoist
Why not just put the left side mount on the right side and right side mount on the left side if possible to see if it’ll fix the offset
I would focus on engine transmission placement in the car then install the k member and make the modification. Then it will be easier to get the angle correct on the mount you’re building.
Should've put some of the money that went to pretty floors toward a nice pneumatic engine hoist.
Great episode, really liked lots of wrenching stuff
What about getting the Jedi welding master Tony to weld it up?! We haven't seen him in awhile!!
Toyota implemented a cost savings of about 10 cents per vehicle to just reuse the lift hooks. They get conveyed from one section of the production line to the other and never leave the plant. If you have an old engine, simply use those hooks on the newer engine. you just need to know where the bolts go. Usually a spare hole on the front and the back of the engine. Just a tidbit of info you didn't need to know. You're Welcome...
I knew there was a video coming out today when I saw hoovies new video a while ago. I don't know if anyone else has noticed Freddy's videos always come out a few hours after Tyler's 😂😂😂😂
I feel a lot of the guys I watch upload on the same days
From what I can see for the “mount problem” maybe you can switch the mounts plate from the engine from left to right turning them around so the bolt hole would move back enough to get the mount where it should. I see it’s a 4 bolt rectangle that maybe can be switch around. 😂
More complicated, but what about finding an electric pump to drive the hydraulic power steering system? like in the R53 mini for example. Would certainly give you better steering feel and feedback
What about making a mid engine chassis, and put the 5.7 tundra motor?
11:23 Loving the protective footwear...🥺. Great project though - just make sure you have feet able to operate throttle and clutch by the time it's done! 😃
Jared doing Jared things - listening to Jaredsence alerting him all the time that Freddie did something he shouldn't have.
Jared up playing with a guy and a chevelle
*sense
Perfectly imperfect! Excited to see more progress!
You should look at getting one or even two lift tables. They'll help you lift and lower engines etc from underneath the car.
I al loving your choice of safety shoes 👞😂
Jared needs to teach Freddy the difference between “Questionable choices” and “Foolish Decisions"
A BLACK SUPRA IN THE BACKGROUND 😱😱😱
Tavarish; try removing the engine mount, turn it upside-down and see what the clearance is. Might get you closer.....
its gonna be really hard to get to that drain plug if the oil pan is sitting right there in the subframe
Flip the mounts over and drill new holes
nice safety footware Freddy
I remember when the shop was clean and organized...now it looks like my GF's makeup room!!!
sure. she from canada?
"I love projects that don't cost a lot of money" I have a feeling by the end of this, it's going to have cost more than my new car. >.
Love the black Supra sitting pretty in the back.
Love how at 7:25 you spray and immediately use and impact to remove a bolt. Why bother spraying if you don't let it sit?!
Definitely a case of do as I say not as I do. Almost everything looked pretty sketchy lol. Looking around that shop it seems as though it’s becoming very cluttered and quite messy. Might need to take a weekend and clean it up some and give yourself some clean space to work in.
lmao the good old cracked manifold problem on the ISF Engine...
Flip those engine mounts upside down - bolt and a hockey puck!
can you flip the motor mount upsidedown to get it closer??
Can't wait to hear this thing run in an SC
Tavarish should do a detailed garage update with absolutely all his cars.
Love this project. And appreciate a channel where the people hosting it actually have dirty hands. Not just hosts lol keep it up
HUGE FAN OF THE STEELTON PRY BARS! Ollie’s bargain outlet or bust.
Why not fabricate a tubular front subframe that allows placing the IS-F motor and steering into the SC?
What about using a v8 model subframe from a sc400? Surely that's more likely to be closer
I like your TShirt Tavarish
With any conversion it all depends how deep your pockets are if you have a budget double it and add 10% - I think this one will have a better chance of being completed with Mr Pink on the case 🔧
Use the hockey puck mounts, you know you want to.
Who's black MK4 supra is that in the background?
Don't weld on the aluminum! make a steel bracket that bolts to both sides! I'm just guessing you might do that anyways... Love watching your show!!!💯💥💥💥💥
I have always enjoyed watching your videos. Looking at you offering up the engine to the new sub frame, I think if you turn the mounts on the engine up side down and bolt tem to the enging like that it may line up with the mount holes in the new subframe.
Couldn’t you use the existing mounts and just drill a hole in them and trim off the rest?
What if you swapped the isf mounts. L to R and R to L and see how they line up
