If you just sit and listen how its put together and that aggression and precision of instrument skills will grab you. I’m not even a hip hop fan anymore. It’s metal, blues, jazz and classical music that imo is the most thought provoking. 🤘

Fear Factory and Meshuggah were the two bands that really took the whole concept of syncopating every pick stroke with every kick-drum hit.
Both bands did it in different ways though. FF made it very "machine-gun" sounding.

This was unexpected! Fear Factory is one of my favorite bands, easily in my top 5. Most of their albums are concept albums about some type of machine takeover or at least some type of man vs. machine/man vs. technology type of story. So their lyrics may sound cheesy on their own, but they're telling a story along with the rest of the album. Anyway, I love their machine gun drumming/guitar combos. Fear Factory was a band in the 90's that saved heavy metal in an era dominated by alternative rock and hip hop... Pantera were the kings of the genre in the 90's decade, Megadeth was the inferno 🔥🔥 and Slayer were the persistence... (Metallica were off on a weird country/ alternative stint...) Most of the 80's heavy metal bands were struggling to find an audience... new bands were not breaking commercially.
But we got a shot in the arm in 1995 when Fear Factory released their 2nd album 'Demanufacture'... Other bands like Machine Head started to break w/ the album 'Burn my eyes'... KoRn also took off w/ their first album... Deftones started to take off w/ the 'Adrenalin' album... The metal genre started to show a lot of promise.
Fear Factory started at a time when Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo were the gaming standard... Their music was actually picked for the video game soundtracks years later as the graphics got more elaborate and advanced... Fear Factory's whole concept was futuristic, usually around the battle between humanity & technology... man or machine... The band was formed in 1989 in California by Dino Cazares (guitar) and Raymond Herrera (drums) after recruiting Burton C. Bell (vocals)... Fear Factory debuted in 1992 w/ the album 'Soul of a new machine'.
Christian Olde Wolbers (bass) joined in 1995 for the 2nd album 'Demanufacture'... it sold admirably without any MTV or radio airplay... tracks like 'Replica'... 'Self-bias resistor'... 'Demanufacture'... became fan faves. The band also used keyboards, beats and programming on their records.
Fear Factory's 3rd album 'Obsolete' depicted a future where humanity is essentially mechanized and organic life is fighting for survival... it went gold (half million copies) in the US and had an MTV hit w/ a cover of Gary Numan's 80's hit 'Cars' (feat. Gary Numan).
4th album 'Digimortal' in 2001 was about the technology that could immortalize people by converting their memories into A.I. ...but Burton C. Bell abruptly quit the band in 2002 after differences w/ Dino Cazares.
Fear Factory returned in 2004 w/ Christian Olde Wolbers taking over guitar and Raymond Herrera on drums and Burton C. Bell returning w/ the album 'Archetype'... followed by 'Transgression' in 2005. But more differences led to Fear Factory disbanding by 2007.
In 2010, Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares reconciled and relaunched Fear Factory w/ the album 'Mechanize'... followed by 'The Industrialist' (2012) and 'Genexus' (2015)... Bell and Cazares became embroiled in court cases w/ Wolbers and Herrera over the 'Fear Factory' name... A new album 'Aggression continuum' was recorded (released in 2021), but Burton C. Bell split w/ Dino once again, calling the situation a "toxic drama".
In 2022, Dino Cazares announced that Fear Factory would be touring in 2023 w/ a new lead singer.
Some other Fear Factory songs - 'Powershifter'... 'Martyr'... 'Archetype'... 'Resurrection'... 'Acres of skin'... 'Linchpin'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

Saw them open for Rob Zombie back in the day. Bunch of fucking kids were there to see Rob but a bunch of us were there to see Fear Factory. When the mosh pit broke out we just started chucking kids in there and elbowing them on the way in. No moshpits during the Zombie show but his guitar player poured fake blood out of his guitar all over the 1st couple rows. All in all a good show.

this probably has gaming energy because fear factory songs, especially off of this album, were in a lot of games late 90s to early 2000s, its definitely how i knew of them

The video game reference actually there was a game called demolition racer I think it was ps1 maybe ps2 and they had a song in there, but yes if it wasn't for Tony hawk and need for speed I wouldn't have found some of the groups and singers that I listen to

I really appreciate you taking one like this on, being open and honest about your current vs. likely former interaction with it, and being able to find some enjoyment in it.
Yeah, gosh, more than 20 years on, it feels a little aged, a little trite. But, back when, for those of us in or adjacent to counterculture or the metal / industrial / goth scenes heard a lot of FF, since it fused them all in a way no one else had quite done before. A little cheesy? Yes, even then, but not entirely without meaning, and definitely with a lot of feeling in those driving beats and riffs.
It's only the sort of thing I'd listen to these days when a whim strikes, it's not on my playlists for a long time now, but good to hear someone else appreciating it anew.

He said his 16 year old self would think who are these white boys. I thought the same thing when I was 13. Then I found out the drummer and guitarist are Mexican American. And that the guitarist is from El Centro Ca my hometown. I went to high school with Dino Cazarez's nephew. Growing up, metal and rock music were considered whiteboy music. Finding out chicanos played metal was awsome to me. That's my point.

So maybe had been said, but please check out the entire "band's own REMIX of this album, titled "Remanufacture". It is the coolest and catchiest yet most powerful mix of hip-hop beats, Fear Factory metal, and electronica / techno ever. Ok technically the only one but honestly one of my all-time favorite albums. If you have ever taken a medicinal Lights Shut Down trip to an album and enjoyed yourself, include the remix of Demanufacture to that library of options, as well as Hello Nasty by the Beastie Boys.
