KE is a good Specialization with both Spirit and Winter Tree. Spirit tree does boost barrier but Winter provides useful melee range passive buffs and a attack combo for KE being the Shatter combo. Shatter combo is done by freezing enemies hitting them with a attack that shatters their frozen state which performs high amount of damage. Combo is done by: Freeze spells (any spell that can freeze enemies) + Spirit Blade (Spirit blade will shatter any frozen enemies) = Shatter Combo (from damage I seen it is around a 800% to 1000% damage combo since a normal Spirit Blade hit does 120 damage but shatter combo does between 400 to 500 damage) The Shatter combo is the only combo attack I manage to discover so far in this game but it has proven effective on enemies that can be frozen.
It is way overdue, but KE works with Fire skill tree too. You can add Chaotic Focus and Clean Burn passives. The first one expands half of you barrier to empower fire mine. The second one reduces ALL of you cooldowns by one second everytime you cast a spell. Since your spirit blade has no cooldown, has very little mana cost and counts as a spell, you can spam it to proc your passive. Thus making KE the tankiest mage with the highest CDR which leads to the best potential DPS as well.
knight enchanter is probably the strongest class in terms of survivability when combined with the spirit tree. constant barriers, huge mana regen, lots of utility spells, and consistent damage. If it had a taunt it could be a tank, as is it's an extremely beefy support class than can get right in the middle of a fight without worrying about getting killed. I was able to solo a dragon with a knight enchanter, granted it was a level below me and took ages to kill it but I managed it.
Jasta85 I would definitely say so, yes. Certainly compared to the other Mage specializations, probably compared to the Warrior and Rogue ones too. I initially thought this Rift I take on at the start of this video was a level 12 one, but turns out you can solo a level 15 rift pretty well on Nightmare (I was level 16). Only issue is when you come up against enemies that have no barrier or guard (like when a Rift spawns only Shades), as your barrier "self-heal" is very small in that instance. It's definitely my favourite for its support potential.
well there some interesting lore reason for KE being this strong. If you talk to Solas after unlocking KE he will explain the history of Knight Enchanter being... -Knight Enchanter was originally called Arcane Warrior and Battle Mage which implies that Arcane Warrior and Battle Mage were only half the arts of Knight Enchanter but KE uses the full power of both AW and BM. -The magic art was originally developed in the Ancient Elven kingdom by the first Arcane Warriors.
What dragon was it, though? The Abyssal High Dragon is really boring and weak, any class with guard could solo it. (But yeah, Knight Enchanter is pretty damn strong, regardless of dragon)
orrthehunter that's kind of crazy to me because KE focus on defensive magic and a spirit blade while arcane warriors used magic to use spell power so they could wear heavy armor and being able to use melee weapons...
erinn thomas well that the lore behind the existance of KE and it's origin. The AW of DAO was only using half of the KE talent and the Melee Weapon for KE is just replaced by their Spirit Blade. While defensive, the KE is also very offensive in high damage as well which is why it is considered to be the most Overpowered Job in DAI.
Dude I owe you big deal for this..I hate gathering quests and most of all I hate quests that don't tell you *where* to gather..this is like, taking off at least 50% of the weight. You've earned another subscriber :D
You can also buy all the Lazurite you need at the Black Emporium. Depending on your own crafting needs, you might want to buy more then ten as the ore is useful for weapons and armor
Thank you very much! You have definitely earned your self 3 new subscribers! ( My friends and I) You have saved me a ton of time so for that, I owe you my gratitude.
I specced this on my mage too, its definitely the most tanky and best for survivability. I would even say its the best dps out of the 3 mage specializations, i was so sad about no blood magic; i wouldn't care if everyone in-game hated me i would drain them.
Thanks for this I freaking hate my main character.... After hitting level 8 is boring but finally some thing that keep me going :3 now using sera as rogue till I unlock my knight enchanter
So i chose Rift Mage as my first playthrough specialisation. Limp is pretty much all i have to say about it. Yeah its got some fun new toys... but thats about it. Will likely choose this as my second playthrough specialistation this time. As much as i love mage, i dont like the fact that i am only sometimes seem to be doing something. Sure, i am tossing staff energy at my enemies and using cooldowns when they are up... but a Knight Enchanter is a really active specialisation that allows me to at least APPEAR to be actively doing something.
I don't think Rift Mage is bad at all, but for me I didn't want it on my main character either. I had Solas as a fully kitted out Rift Mage + Fire specialist, and that results in a huge amount of AoE damage. Those trees synergy very well together. But beyond doing a lot of AoE damage, you can't do much else with it. For practically my entire playthrough I had Solas with me though, which worked out really well. (Especially since Pull of the Abyss + Spirit Blade works wonders for AoE damage too).
You are an idiot. Rift mage gives you acces to an infinite mana pool. Couple that with flashpoint and you get stupidly high crowd controlling calabilities.
Bruh. I first got dragon age origins when getting a saints row game and then I played it because I'm not one who waste a game and I was curious. Then shit got fucking *REAL*. That was 3 years ago. Now I'm up to my neck with the 3rd game trying to last until dragon age 4 comes out.
I got all the way to crafting the hilt. now I'm stuck. I crafted it, went to go turn it in, and nothing. nothing at all... she says shes awaiting me to turn in the hilt and and I cant go any further. and of course, the requisition table doesn't have the hilt in it any more.
Up stairs above the entrance to skyhold castle literally my Vivienne doesn't sit there and couldn't find the area due to that. She stayed in the courtyard. So for those who can't find it second door on the right up the stairs and behind the bed on your right next to the giant scaffold they using for repairs. And FYI book vendor doesn't have the book neither so had to figure it out myself thanks again useless youtube.
To the author or anyone that is experienced, in your opinion what is the best race to use for Mage Knight Enchanter? Any incremental advantage would do, and why? Thank you for your time :)
I mean I guess you'll be up close and personal a lot and the qunari does give a boost to melee defense.... or u could pick human soley for the extra ability point.... so one of the two... ranged defense really wont matter once again due to spirit blade..
So don't know if anyone will reply to this, but do I have to find the book before the enemies will appear? last night I went to the enemy locations, but there was nothing.
Does your main character have to be a Mage In order to became a knight enchanter, is that the only way? My main character is a 2h sword, could you have Solas or another Mage become a knight enchanter?
Your main character needs to be a Mage, yes. But other party members also get these specializations (they simply get them, no quest required), Vivienne becomes a Knight-Enchanter, Solas a Rift Mage and Dorian a Necromancer. As a 2 handed warrior you can be a Templar, Reaver or Champion.
Try leaving Skyhold once, destination doesn't matter, and then return to it. They'll have rebuilt some parts of Skyhold (has no effects on the story or anything). That should give you the quest.
Do you have Vivienne? If you do, it should definitely be there. Second floor, you can get there a few ways but when you enter the keep (the throne room) take the second door to your right. If you don't have Vivienne, check the book merchant in Val Royeaux (all the way at the bottom right on the map). But if you have Vivienne, it's not going to be at the book merchant.
The stuff they leave out of this game, like where to find those stupid wisps, is downright annoying. The specializations should have been easier to unlock.

best KE tutorial out there. you're a hero.
Sorry buddy this was nerfed pretty hard
Thanks for this I freaking hate my main character.... After hitting level 8 is boring but finally some thing that keep me going :3 now using sera as rogue till I unlock my knight enchanter

I cant get the "Specialisations For The Inquisitor" quest, how do u trigger it, im already at skyhold.
Try leaving Skyhold once, destination doesn't matter, and then return to it. They'll have rebuilt some parts of Skyhold (has no effects on the story or anything). That should give you the quest.
