    New Yorker here and I Love Philly.......you guys have everything NY has without the massive crowds and rude people. Streetcars are always a bonus of course. Always feel I can appreciate skyscrapers and metro systems more on a slightly smaller scale than NY's too...

      howardkevinm Haha so true...mta is just a mess. CBTC is almost pointless too when they only use it for 1 or 2 lines :(

      Thanks! We love everything to do with Trolleys here in Philly... Our trolley network is probably the most intricate, and largest network in all of the US.

      My dad first had a flower shop in the subway at Broad & Allegheny, then a second shop at 8th & Market. I rode the subways and trolleys by myself, starting at around age 6 (Can you imagine that these days?) as I made my way to the flower shop. My Mom was a Kelly Girl (temp) so she was working. Later on, I too would skip school and ride the EL from one end to the other...and back again. Ah, those were the days!

    Last time I took the El from Bridge & Pratt was 2001 when I moved to Florida, can still remember all the stops to 46th & Market but I hated the A & B train, not all trains stopped at 46th but one operator forgot what train he was operating and blew past the station, a lot of pissed off people got off he train and had to double back

    This is a great way to kill some time riding back and forth on the express. From 15th st to 30th is a good experience.

    Look at the UK Metropolitan Line S8 Stock.
    SEP-Duhhh"s capacity problems can most easily be solved by re-stocking wirth cars of this type with more sophisticated door programming.
    This assume train lengths that extend into the tunnel at one or both ends and the ability to lock out doors on, say, the first and last cars.

    At the end of the line at 69th St. terminal.........do the transit trains cross over to the other track?............or do they go around a loop track?

    • @havenas1020yt
      @havenas1020yt  7 лет назад

      They use the loop tracks at 69th Street

    • @kevinhoward9593
      @kevinhoward9593 6 лет назад +1

      loop. its designed to prevent a crush of people trying to use the same stairway. one track is used to discharge passengers only then it loops to the double track island platform.

    Some express. it wasnt much faster then the local. 5:21 can someone explain to me what the purpose of those weird things are on the tracks? theres one at Tioga, Somerset and near Girard. I never quite understood the purpose of them. the EL is the only system i seen that has them. The bridge at 8:24 was built sometime in 1917. im looking at a picture form 1917 that has the bridge and elevated structures in place, but the tracks are not there (theres also like 12 tracks under it for the Reading. funny thing is now therse just one lol). Margeret Orthodox was (originally) completed in 1922.

      I believe what you are thinking of is a bridge expansion joint. Rails are bent outwards to that when thermal expansion occurs, the train does not derail.

    • @havenas1020yt
      @havenas1020yt  5 месяцев назад

      Okay… this was LABELED a Super Express because of the Papal Visit mentioned in the videos description. The stations were not open, they were closed so it wasnt skip-stop, and numerous stops were bypassed… so it’s an express.
