King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is one of the best tactical turn-based RPGs I’ve played in awhile largely because of the highly nuanced and cohesive mechanics that always seem to make sense. It never fails to keep you on your toes because of how tough combat and progression can become, but even the difficulty itself doesn’t feel unfair since your choices ultimately affect what happens to the Heroes you recruit and manage. Right from the start, combat is exhilarating and fun and this pace doesn’t dwindle. Quite the opposite in fact, as you unlock more Skills and enhance the party’s gear, things only become more interesting.
In addition to the excellent combat, the game also has compelling and interesting characters, some of whom you won’t be able to recruit due to differences in beliefs, a lot of build options, and a base to manage and customize as you see fit. It really does combine some of my favorite elements from other RPGs into one fantastic Arthurian tale.

Glad to see a massive surge in turn-based games. I've gone right off RTS and RTWP - not interested in a rushed clickfest. Will pick this up for sure.
meh.. this genre gets old quick, and sometimes these drag on too long (pathfinder, wrath of righteous was so damn long though that's a crpg). this looks good but we need a good new arpg, been too long, they take years to make though.

Exactly! I remember a time when I had given up hope on the market providing TBS games. Every other game released was another RTS crap game. Even Battletech (back then originally). You could never plan deep multi unit strategies and tactics. JA2 was the absolute peak of this gameplay and has never been equaled since. Divinity games came closest though. I love the variety of everything we have today, its just hard to keep track of so much content.
as you age tbs takes over rts its that simple turn based will last forever because we all get older no exeptions
@@gunhojput Very good point but even youunger I grew up with games like Battletech and Risk, etc so I love being able to plan tactics and grand strategy and you just can't do that with RTS... its 90% about how fast you can Micro / Multitask and be quick about it. I do love They Are Bilions though because that you can pause at least.

Definitely a pickup for me once it's on sale (not that this game isn't work its $45 asking, but because I'm late 50s and rarely play the games I buy these days all the way through so I avoid paying full price).
I'm the same at 65yrs old, I rarely finish a game as I get bored with them. But I'm so desperate to play a game that can grab me like Dragon Age Origins did way back then, that I find myself buying these sort of games anyway at release. I don't want to see the guy with the sickle without at least trying to finish another great rpg. Hopefully this game will be one I actually finish.
If turn based games are your thing, I think you will like it. Its awesome

Worth mentioning that these guys made King Arthur 1/2: the Roleplaying Wargames before this two sort of Heroes of Might and Magic and Total War Light esque games with fantastic narration. Much of the character and world design comes from these games.
I just don't like the inverted storyline. I have been reading Lemorte de Arthur and it's a weird but facinating book. I really wish some game company would rather stick to the legend as is.
@@snaphaan5049 They kinda did with previous titles. I like this take due to it being so rare but I understand what you mean. Maybe in a sequel they might do something more classical.

i liked the old neocore games and having fextra's voice on the party is a really nice adition, ill give this a try at some point
I like the game. I just wish Neocore would make one based directly on the original lore. Arthurian Lore is so underutilized not just in modern gaming, but contemporary media itself.
It would be good to see an updated review on this. This was the first game I bought in early access, and at first, I didn't like it, but that was because I didn't understand early access.. then, when it was released, I fell in love with this game, and now it has more end-game content. I love this game, and I think it is highly underrated
It is a pretty good game but it is SO repetitive. I was wish I could fight something other than another skeleton after playing a good while.
Been wondering about the performance at launch, heard about it having really long loading times in early access so was waiting for some optimization. Glad it seems to be getting great reviews on steam though.

I've always loved the Arthurian legend and will be interested to try this on the PS5.
It's such an amazing universe and yet so ridiculously underused in gaming. I really don't get it. A couple okay rts games and that's about all we've ever had for King Arthur games, until this.
I don't know why developers never want to touch an existing great universe that's pretty much universally adored
crazy that you VA'd a character wow you came that far already and the game UI looks so damn similar to death trap and van helsing if not quite identical but I guess thats the charme route that neocore games always took.

i will support this direction. doing so good. now please let us pick classes and go deep. like ranger, priest, mage, druid, sorc... use this as a game model for it with goblins, orcs, etc. insta-buy. next game of the year.

I bought this on day 1 of early access. It was painfully short. Looking forward to playing the full game! If I can get myself to stop playing Elden Ring...
It's a good game indeed. I backed it on kickstarter 2 years ago for 20 bucks. Enjoyed the Early Access but mainly waited for the full release. My only gripe is that same as Martyr here too the installation is RIDICULOUSLY BIG. They need to change their way of coding and start using some compressions.

Would you recommend this first or Expeditions: Rome? Ill end up with both but wondering which one you found more polished. Seems like ER has more of the rpg feel and this has more combat focus?

Looks like a decent $20 purchase. Seeing a bit of jank but the concept is cool, I have a soft spot for Arthurian lore.
The answer is always a sound no for playing games on release. Given track record of every game released so far, many feature aspects that need tweaking of mechanics, optimization and bug fixes. Is this game worth playing ever? Sure.

This really looks like a game I would have enjoyed. Not putting it on console til later this year is a bad job by them because now they’re risking competing against Square-Enix’s game which if we’re being honest would be a very tough game for them to compete with to put it mildly.

This will be the first turn-based RPG I've played since my Early Playstation days so wish me luck I guess? xD 😂 I do enjoy strategic/tactical combat so I think I may not need luck after all. got it yesterday. played for around 4 hours - its pretty clunky and it doesn't look all that great. the RPG elements leave much to be desired. the gameplay is so simple, if it weren't for longevity and graphics it could've been reduced to a flash game

Whats the point in end game? Like diablo style loot? Once ive built everything, recruited everybody, is there a goal to end game?
Your voice acting feels really out of place. Clicking around from knight to knight rasping "I serve the lord" in a low tone is fine but then Lancelot belts out "FOR KING AND COUNTRYYYYY" and I fall out of my gaming chair. Seriously they should do more with characters like Lancelot and Gawain. Amazing game though, sleeper hit of the year.

1. Are the maps procedual or always the same?
2. Are the units you fight always the same in the play through? Or is every time different?
3. What happens when a team member dies and you have to replace them?
4. Can you get more members if one dies?
5. Can you lose all your men?
6. Is this a procedudual story or is there a end?
7 If a member dies in Combat can you get the gear off them or is it gone forever?
8. Is every play through the same? ie. Same story events, Same mobs in same location etc.

3. They are permanently dead and you fill in with another knight from your roster

When I first heard about this I wasn’t interested because of the protagonist being Mordred. This in my mind goes against all mythological and fantasy logic. I’m almost done watching Merlin and am going to watch Excalibur again and find myself in the mood for an Arthurian themed game. Then I found your video and can say, “You talked me into it dude.” 😊

Any word on why the file size is so huge? Multiple Steam reviews point out that it takes up 121 gigs and that just seems like way too much. Did they not compress any of the files?
It's because the devs are lazy and didn't compress anything. An independent modder has already reported that they've been able to reduce the install size to about 35GB by doing basic compression to the files. What a fkn joke though. I'm personally passing on this. I refuse to support any company that shows such blatant disrespect and disregard for the player like this.

This game is awesome. I love this type of game BUT i am absolutely horrible at them. most of my units have persistent injurys. Im not that far in yet and am completely out of potions. Its a thing but im still having a blast

Isn't 30 companions abit overwhelming?? and it sucks that only the companions you carry get to level up. So you're more likely to be stuck with the same companions to not waste EXP.
This game looks good but I’m afraid combat, enemies and environments will become repetitive. The graphics look good but the consistently gray color palette bothers me. The same problem is what partially turned me off Wasteland 3.

It is a Neocore Studio game so, without trying it, I can guarantee that you will be moving slow af. Neocore is allergic to even remotely fast character movement (just look at their other titles)

I suggest that you wait few months, or even a year. The game right now has very little to offer in terms of game mechanics. It has alot of potential but it's no where close to fulfilling it.
