do the steps have to follow in that manner, someone told me that if you do PLT full, you can write exams after 6monts of completing PLT but still have to do one-year articles, and those who have PLT and articles can write immediately. And those with LLM or LLD can apply to LPC to have articles excluded.
The first two are correct ☺️ as for LLM holders, they still have to do articles of clerkship. For LLD holders, I’m not sure. I’ve just checked the LPC website and the FAQ page and nothing indicates that one can have articles excluded before being admitted 🤔 That last part I’m not sure of nor have I heard of it 🤷🏽♀️
Heey 🩷 no, according to the Legal Practice Act, you can only be admitted as an attorney if your LLB degree is from a university recognised in South Africa. This is because our legal systems vary from country to country so it wouldn’t make sense for you to be in practice with a degree that doesn’t align with your job
Heeey! How you dey? 😅 Yes, only if you are a permanent resident. By the time you finish your degree(s) + practicals, you’d be eligible to get permanent residency.
@@shelateffo please i wanted to know if i studied law and worked there for a very long time can i become a judge and be promoted like every normal person
I didn't know after graduation that I could go to law school and write board exams. Please, advise on this, do I have to be registered for articles to do the 150 hours as opposed to 400 hours?
Yes, you can do that ☺️ No you don’t have to be doing articles in order to do the 150 hours of PLT. But with doing the 150 hours, know that your contract of articles will then have to be for 24 months. 150 hours PLT goes with 24 months of PVT, 400 hours goes with 12 months PVT If you haven’t started with articles, I’d suggest you jump in on the 400 hours 🤔 Another reason, besides shortening the period of articles, is that the 400 hours will really prepare you for exams as opposed to the 150 hours (my personal opinion). The 150 hours course is sooo short. It felt like I just got materials and self studied 😂🙊
@@shelateffo Thanks for the in depth explanation, just that I wanted to do 150 hours because it's cheaper, but I will definitely do the one that shortens period of articles to 1 year and I have already applied to do it part time, received acceptance letter, hope it goes well.
You are right, the full time one is expensive 🙈 that’s why I ditched it too 🙊🙈 I simply couldn’t afford it It’s also not impossible to pass with the 150 hours one ✨just weigh your options accordingly. May your legal career be a fruitful one ❤️
You can but those opportunities are a bit scarce for first years. As a first year, I suggest you Job Shadow. That’s what I did in my first year. There’s no formal application, just send an email and if they accept, you just go there and see wassup for a couple of days 😁😅
Where in this process are you? 😁👇🏽
2nd year Bcom Law student.
Can I do articles at this stage?
Eyyyyy🥳 congratulations!
Unfortunately not. You can only do your articles when you are in possession of an LLB degree.
In highschool grade 10

Geez. That’s unfortunate because I can’t sacrifice my job to earn such a low salary, I have a family to feed😭
It is low 😬🫠 and the worst is that articles are a requirement so there’s no two ways of going about it 🫣🫠🫠 sorry
