No other First Lady could ever hold a candle to her. She was courageous, compassionate, and intelligent. It's a shame she isn't as well known as Princess Diana or Dr. King, because she is worthy of such commemoration.
Thank you for this video. She worked so hard on this Declaration. It was the crowning achievement of her career and it's wonderful to see. She was quite a lady and indeed the BEST First Lady we've had.
What a great person she was. I'd even say she was the real first female president of the United States as she had a huge hand in helping to shape policy in FDR's White House.
@garybsg~ Well, I didn't say she was a saint. She did remarkable work and you can't discredit that because she wasn't perfect. She did far more than was expected of her as First Lady, and as a woman during that time, it couldn't have been easy.
she is more well known or at least equally. you just don't hear about her in pop culture or the media. You may be showing your young age...but it's cool appreciate her
as a first lady, her hands were tied publicallly. If she was seen to be undermining the decisions of the commander in chief it would cast doubt on him in war time and she would have been derided or banished. who knows how much she railed against him in private very likely that would have been the more effective way to sway him given the times and women's lack of power, anyway.
On December 10, 1948 the United Nations General Assembly voted to adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, however I am not sure about the date for this specific speech.
@PeaceJustice4ever Look I can't blame her for all that her husband did and I admire his wartime leadership but also recognize his domestic policies of socialism has changed the US in not a good way. FDR gets and A+ for war leadership and F- for starting the welfare state.

She not only broke the mold she shattered it. She was awsome!
Happy 75th Anniversary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10th December 2023)

Larry David's impression brought me here. Had to here what she sounds like.
Mrs. Teasdale.
Eleanor Roosevelt should never have been allowed to make a TV appearance without Groucho Marx.
What year was this?
1948
