    Oooooo, I love the movement of the permanent red orange. I do love the transparent orange and usually have room on my palette for that.

    Nice! It at least makes a good reference for these paints. I like the cool yellows the most. 👍

    My favourite is Turner's Yellow, although Cadmium Yellow would be a close second. Indian Yellow is handy as an opaque touch of highlights where needed.
    I've got a small number or orange paints, but I mostly mix it from my reds and yellows. The Daniel Smith Quinacridone Burnt Orange is a bit tasty though, as is the Pyrrol Orange.

    Yay, good to see you, and what a treat to have the whole series coming!
    I have a surprising number of yellows from Schmincke. I have the PY 175 (I forgot I had that!), PY 150, Cad Yellow Medium, and PY 154 is on its way to me now (as well as the Saturn Red and the PY 3, because I bought the square palette!). I also have Transparent Ochre PY 43 (NOT RECOMMENDED) and their PBr 24, which they call Titanium Gold Ochre. I actually LOVE their version of the PY 150, I think it lays down very smooth due to the oxgall.
    (My tube of Transparent Ochre was an extremely strange texture, dried down to a rock, and when I re-swatched it recently, it had changed color significantly -- it was much browner than originally). I recommend Qor's Transparent Yellow Oxide instead!)
    I agree Cad colors must be quite easy to make. Every one from every brand I have tried has been excellent.
    I too thought PY 153 was discontinued, but they also use it in their Sap Green, and Sennelier also claim to use it in one of their yellows as well. I believe I emailed Schmincke and they told me they have old stock of it? I have some idea that Sennelier might make their own? Or maybe they have a stockpile too.
    They have some interesting naming: They call their Hansa Yellow Deep "Chromium Yellow Deep." Maybe they feel it sounds fancier. And they call their Azo Orange "Chromium Orange Hue." Have no idea why that would be more appealing than Azo Orange. Or, maybe they are just trying to fool people into buying more paints!!
    I've been looking a lot at orange pigments lately for some reason, and I notice too that they have different undertones, and it's quite hard to describe. I see the pink/coral undertone on the Saturn Red here, although I did not notice it on the dotcard. The difference here between the PO 62 and the PO 20 Cad Orange Deep, shows an undertone difference too, which I don't know quite how to classify.
    I am excited to get my palette and see that Saturn Red in person. I also think it's pretty impressive/unusual for a line to have 3 different shades of Cadmium Orange -- that are all single pigment PO 20s -- so I do have to hand it to them for that! I am also really attracted to the Cadmium Red Orange shade; I totally agree it would be a great substitute for Cad Red Light or another scarlet.

      Hi Jenn 👋🏼. Actually, Sennelier do have PY153 but theirs is noticeabley more yellow than the “normal” orange-yellow PY153.

      @@awatercolourist Thanks, I remembered something vaguely about that! Good to know!! I'm betting the Schmincke one is also yellower because the sap green is very bright yellow green.

    That transparent orange is a lovely colour, if only I had a reason to use it. I have two of the yellows, they haven’t been used much yet either. I’m mostly painting with my Van Gogh paints because I don’t want to waste the good stuff…

    I like this swatches, because I only have two real yellows from schmincke. and I have and like two yellows from rembrandt. I did get the rembrandt's cadmium lemon yellow as cheaper version of the schminckes pure yellow. that was when I got me the first set of tube paints from a recommendations list for a starter kit of 12-14 colours for landscaping. and there pure yellow was recommended or a similar transparent yellow. and as it turned out, the rembrandts cadmium lemon yellow had the same transparency. I only was never really sure about the tone. I think, pure yellow from schmincke is a bit less cool tones. rather warm or middle tone. to me it did look they both are similar. but when you look at schminckes cadmium lemon yellow, it is less transparent. because schmincke is rather consistent with the naming - e.g. cadmiums are always more opaque. but with other brands I am never sure. later I got me the transparent yellow by schmincke as well. it is interesting, from the oranges all in all, I realy love the transparent orange. it is a delight to use in mixes and it does look great in washes for the horizon or on glazes for sunset. but I am not so good in glazing :-) but I love how it looks, when others use it.

    Oh there is one more PY 53 from Schmincke, -- in the earths section -- they call it Rutile Yellow, and it's more of a golden color as opposed to the lemony version here called Titanium Yellow.

    I enjoy the pyrol orange which is transparent because I can make it a glaze and look like the sun is hitting an object directly. Otherwise I just mix my own orange. I don’t use the fugitive colors though.

    I use Aureolin Hue and Transparent Yellow in my Schmincke palette and they are both really nice. I bought a tube of Yellow Orange about two years ago and the pigment was PY153 - it must have been an old tube, so maybe their “secret stash” is getting low... It’s very bright and I definitely prefer Transparent Orange. I bought Saturn Red for a warm red and like you I’m not sure what to think of it. It’s neither really orange nor red, and it does have a coral-like hue when watered down. I’m looking forward to seeing you swatch out the next batch!

    That was useful! A lot of these are pretty. Very clean colors. The undertone of the Saturn Red is quite interesting and distinctive. I really wish Schmincke would name their single pigment colors by the pigment name. Permanent this, Saturn that, This Hue ... not terribly helpful. It was useful to see them painted into wet; they don't move very much. Which isn't good or bad, it just depends on what you want. It is good to know this! I was thinking of getting some Schmincke but I really like paints that move. Hmmmm.
    Speaking of yellows, Golden/QoR just released a video today where they use Green Gold as a yellow in a spring palette. It was enlightening and I thought of you because of how much you dislike green gold. It made the color more interesting. And speaking of QoR, they have a Cad Yellow that really goes cool in tone, Cadmium Yellow Primrose. I love it!

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 года назад +1

      Yes Schmincke's naming of their paints is a little weird but then again most brands are guilty of this to some extent.
      Some of the Schmincke paints didn't move as much as I was expecting. Though they still move a lot more than the Asian brands I'm most used to.

    Last winter I threw away 2 palettes of Schmincke watercolor paint. It was quite a drama but all the colors were full of mold. Because it was a very wet winter. please, how can you avoid something like this?... this winter didn't happen and I have other kinds of watercolors. Thanks for your interesting videos.El pasado invierno tire a la basura 2 paletas de pintura acuarela Schmincke.Fue todo un drama peros todos los colores estaban llenos de moho.debido a que fue un invierno muy humedo . por favor como se puede evitar una cosa as?...este invierno no paso y tengo otras clase de acuarelas. Oh that's a shame. I hope your losses weren't too expensive? ☹️ To avoid mold growing while you store your palettes it's best to let you paints dry out before you put them away.

    I always wonder, how this turner's yellow got it's name. I mean, how did Turner use it? is it the shade from the oil paintings, he also did or did he mixe that himself for his watercolour paintings? :-)

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 года назад +1
