Hello there just found your channel , Iam from Alloa and fascinated by history in my area I did know the reason of the name of Mannu in our area we got told at school it was a Celtic sea god etc ,but the bit that fascinates me is the area between clackmanan and Alloa there is a upright stone called the hawkhill stone I gave visited this many times ,there is on one side a Christian cross but to me this feels like a later addition by someone,I always got told that the stone was erected to celebrate a battle on the plains of Mannu by the Pictish king Bride(Bridie?)against the Northumberians who had land up to Stirling ,for a small county wee have a lot of history also we have had the battle of Dollar between Halfdan and Constantine in 766?the men of Atholl got defeated here .Thank you for you channel and your work also 👍
There's not that much info about the Hawkhill slab. I think it's believed to be Pictish, but not sure what period. I think as long as the Forth was navigable all the way to Stirling it made that area much more important than it is now.
Hi, You have an image showing "Catraeth" above the Teviot and beneath the Gododdin.Interesting. Is this where the Battle of Catraeth took place? And Not Catterick further south? It's also in the area of the "Catrail" ditch which terminates near "Eildon "
Took me awhile to figure out what you were talking about. (I was like "no it's not!" LOL) Yeah, that multi-coloured map there toward the end is not my map (and I'm not sure of the source). It's very handy for showing the possible movement from NE Ireland to Manaw Gododdin - but wildly inaccurate in other ways. Catraeth is definitely Catterick, in my opinion.
Aye, well yer misspelling it. But I'm up for learning the local way if you feel like explaining it. In the 25 years I lived in Scotland, I dinnae think I ever heard anybody actually say it.
