Wow, wish I had seen this video back when my wife and I took our cruise! We didn't add the Wifi option while we were there due to the price, this would have made it a no-brainer! Excellent video Mike, going to pick one up right after this message.
I have this exact model at home. I use it's VPN client so all my Internet traffic goes through VPN. Also, I put all my IOT devices on the Guest network. The WRT backend has block rules for anything on the Guest network from accessing other subnets by default. Someday, I'll get PFSense set up, and get my VLANs figured out. Until then, this was a cheap and easy solution.
@wagnonforcolorado Its currently $30.99 on Amazon and that's a steal. I'm getting one more for my car so when we do road trips I'll have it every time. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
@Shamogity_Bo Grab this one in my Amazon Link. It's only $30! We'll worth it when you travel with the family ! It might be even cheaper because of Prime Day,!
hotels and airports are starting to block this. i tried at a few places and it's blocked by os and hardware. mac cloning doesn't help. same with any other router switch etc. so make sure hotel etc you go still allow this.
Thank you once again for a very informative video. Really loved the wallet trick and the background laughter at the appropriate times. The travel router is definitely a must if at that price. GOD BLESS! KEEP THE VIDS COMING!
CooL. to bad i only travel to work and back. as a backup i got this on a USB stick where i put me Sim card in and have internet. Thank you very much for the video 😀
Yes, agree, his first language is not English, but his American accent is quite good. I only hear the slightest of a non-American English accent on certain words and intonation. Nevertheless, great information.
A simple hot spot doesn't have a VPN and is quite a bit slower than a travel router especially when multiple people are connected at once. Also Hot Spots can be hacked at the point where they connect to the internet or to a tethered device. Others can see what you're doing, and in some cases, they may be able to take over your network. Sharing your device with others also means you can't control what they do while connected, which can put everyone at risk. A travel router avoids all of that and it's a better quality connection. Thanks for watching!
@ Ok, thanks! My hotspot is password-protected, and connects to the internet via satellite. All of my devices, also password -protected, are equipped with VPN, which I already pay for. But that’s just my situation. Thanks again.
The crappy, spotty, low-speed internet you connect this tiny router to (at the hotel, airport, cruise ship, etc...) will not improve the bandwidth for download or upload. You are still limited in terms of throughput. This device only offers better security/privacy (at best), but not a speedier internet access. A phone hotspot can often do better than this. Don't be confused, folks.
handy to have as a backup even if you don't travel, thanks mike
Yep its a great little backup and super cheap. Right now it's $30.99 on Amazon and that's a steal for what you get! Thanks for watching mike!
Thanks for the great video and awesome information! I never knew I needed a travel router! But now I'll definitely get one!

I've been on several cruises as well and the WIFI packages are insanely expensive. This seems like a no brainer! Thanks for watching Jon!
@@UltimateTechHub Definitely a no-brainer, order placed!

Nice review! How is the range?
@@markc3571 Range is around 50 feet before it gets weak. Perfect for hotels and cruise ship cabin.
