Ill tell you why Mayo won.
While Ketchup was busy fighting itself, Mayo won the most matches against Ketchup. Ketchup was more popular therefore they were forced to fight one another.
And thats why Mayo won.

Math is fun ^^ Though it only checks out half. Assuming same-team-matches didn't count, we can ignore them. Leaving us with a small sample of KVM matches which actually counted. Mayo still had to win the majority of those.
So this explains how Mayo could win without ever beeing seen by him - but in order to win the event, they still had to win their games against Ketchup.
Mayo won because it is the superior condiment. That and and ketchup is a gross, tart, diabet-inducing, semi-coagulated, period run-off.

Mayo on the other hand subtly compliments the flavors without over powering them, its is a delicate balance which requires precision and practice, us mayo users are almost chefs practicing the art of putting just enough mayo. And this is why mayo makes for an almost unbelievably perfect condiment.

Yeah, the splatfests imbalances are an issue for sure. Of course, the reason Mayo still won, despite not having as many players, is because fighting against people on your team doesnt contribute to your teams score, so Mayo was constantly fighting Ketchup, adding to their score, Ketchup, was not, which means there was a good chance good players were not facing Mayo at all.

The oven boss fits the theme in that you don't want to get cooked. In the game they're always saying "don't get cooked! Stay off the hook!"

Although I agree with your review for the most part Yahtzee, I have to say that the Salmon Run gamemode is a lot more difficult than you say it is. At first, when your level is low, the game is very easy, but when you climb the ranks based on "pay grade" it becomes immediately more difficult to the point where you will be lucky to survive round 3. It takes quite a few games won to get out of the sort of tutorial mode difficulty that it starts you in though.
Also, team mayo won, because there was 73% ketchup players, and when ketchup players had to fight themselves it counted as both a win and a lose for ketchup players.... so mayo always fighting ketchup players would obviously create a big difference in win to loss ratios. Weird system, but I believe everyone sided with ketchup because of the obvious attraction to Marina by a majority of the fans. I guess the splatfests are going to be pretty one-sided in popularity due to the "bangability" of the girls on the front cover, unless people figure out that if they want better queue times they are going to have to side with the ugly girl.
I liked ketchup to like ketchup. As far as sides go, the first splatfest was because of the characters for me. Afterward, I went with my own preferences. Seeing the next splatfest, I'm siding with Pearl cause I enjoy flight more than invisibility. Either way, if were talking about the best girl in the game, I would say Flow. Just a great character overall. Neat design and personality. =Y
Pearl uses the word "fishies" over fish, and is too tiny to take seriously, which is why she is my favorite.

I was so disappointed they removed the mini game, it was honestly my favorite part of Splatoon.

I will grant that splatoon 2 is pretty much a port of splatoon, however, I never got the chance to play splatoon (because my little brother is really pissy about when I get to play on HIS Wii U), so when I got splatoon 2, I genuinely had fun with it and wouldn't have known it was a port if rabbidluigi hadn't titled one of his videos with that fact.
I played both, the gameplay is a bit better, seems more balanced, graphics are improved as well. Not a port, more of a remaster/re-imagining,.
Remaster is probably the better term. The weapons feel a bit more balanced and the addition of Salmon Run is a good way to earn some cash for better gear and XP. However, Splatoon still falls under one of those games of "You should have friends to play this because Randoms dont seem to know whats going on or how working with a team works."
Yeah, there's a ton of little changes and additions that'd only hardcore fans of the first game are going to notice.
Its nothing too surprising since it is a Nintendo third person shooter, and there isn't really a huge variety of game play thats implemented for sequel installments.

the only wins and losses that matter in a splatfest is if it is the opposing team, mirror matches count to nothing but increasing your splatfest rank, if 1 side is popular enough, it is actual possible to never meet the opposing team if your on the more popular option, otherwise all your going to get is the opposing team

What's a cephalod?
Because pluralizing something ending in -us as -i (such as cactus>cacti) is a function of Latin grammar rules. But the ending "-pus" in octopus doesn't come from Latin, it comes from Greek. In Greek, it would be "-podes," so Octopodes.
There's an argument to made that we shouldn't try to pluralize things merely based on their language of origin, so you could suggest "octopuses" as the natural English plural or just keeping with "octopus" because "octopuses" is tricky to say. There's a reasonable argument for any of those three, and I'd be willing to hear reasons behind any other suggestions, but "octopi" would only be defended by a lazy first year classics student trying to appear sly.
I get what you're saying, but our language is constantly evolving and changing and words only have meaning if people agree they do, so the origins of words don't really matter in the face of the minds of people. "Homophobic" by all rights should mean "fear of man" but weather we like it or not, now it means "prejudice against homosexuals" because people are too unimaginative to make words instead of using preexisting words wrongly. It's the same with octopi.

Nah, it's more likely that because Mayo had so few players, they were guaranteed to get a Ketchup matchup.
So their wins/losses actually counted, while majority of Ketchup teams were paired with other Ketchup teams, which meant their wins/losses were essentially pointless.
Ah yes, the classic strategy of gaming the system to end up on the team most likely to get that juicy 2x sea snail bonus.
We'll be seeing this a lot, at least until a save scum trick is found for splatoon 2.

yeh, I missed the memo though, not sure why it is that way.
I think it was the same thing that caused the furries to invade the HUB city, if you don't know what happened apperantly some guy posted a comment reading along the lines of "All furries should die" so someone posted a screen cap of that on twitter and there was a little call to action just like yahtzee said. And the same shit might've happened with trans people idk I got all this information from youtube comments so who knows. Another theory might be that Americans completly lost the concept of a time and a place for everything.

The ketchup vs. mayo debate is interesting for me because I like both, depending on context. I think mayo goes really nicely with fried chicken. The nicest thing is to mix them. Gloriousness ensues.

If you're referring to Latin then Octopi is incorrect, though it's technically valid because enough people made the mistake that it became embedded in the English language. Surprisingly enough, Octopuses is also a valid plural.
True, common usage, even when it is due to misunderstanding can, and does frequently, become the accepted variation. The source of much of our colourful lexica (lexica or lexicons? Is another good example) has been derived in such a way. Hippopotamuses? Hippopotami? Hippos? Hippopotamidae? If I recall correctly, this latter example is loaned from Greek into Latin.
If Octopi is embraced, would that then render Octopodes incorrect?
I'm not a linguist, so I'll assume your question was intended to be rhetorical - although in case it isn't, common usage of Octopi wouldn't render Octopodes incorrect, as the two aren't mutually exclusive. If Octopodes as a term fell into obscurity, it would merely become an archaic term, not an incorrect one.

Honestly, I think this game was made purely to bring Splatoon to the Switch. The game didn't get a whole lot of attention because it was on the Wii U. It's pretty much a port.
