I find Instagram to be pretty awful.

For sure it isn't for everyone! And it's not necessarily the thing to prioritize at the beginning of our careers. I've been freelancing full-time since 2018 and I'm only just getting around to putting some effort into growing my Instagram! And if you hate Insta, thankfully there are many other ways to get work :)

Reels can be whatever you want them to be! They're not limited to one thing :)

Then don't 💁 Instagram can be a great tool but it's not the only method to find work as an artist. You don't HAVE to use it.

Ok, I might be showing my age here but I struggle to actually figure out how to *film* the art reels. I only have so many hands, cameras, and time to create something cool for a reel. I love watching the "process" reels that show little pieces of a painting being made and then clipped together with some glamour shots at the end. But that takes so many hands and so much filming and time - a couple of times my phone ran out of storage for all of the clips I took (just to make sure I had enough) and the work suffered because I had to start and stop so many times and could only use one hand when painting because the other was holding a camera or my phone.
Do you have tips for *filming* content solo with a limited budget? I feel like I'm missing some magic solution that everyone else has figured out already.

I think you may be having trouble because you think reels have to be very elaborate and complicated… they don’t have to be! In fact, short and simple reels tend to do better. My most successful reel was a 6 second clip of me flipping through a stack of sketches. You don’t have to record an every second of your process in every angle. If you get 2-3 clips of 5 seconds each during one sitting, you’re more than set up! Also, when you run out of hands, you can get a phone stand/holder on Amazon for about $20-$30. I hope this helps!
