Install the OS on the SDD so that the system will be faster and then use the HDD as the primary source to store your stuff. Just make sure to backup all of the data incase you mess something up and also have your OS in flash drive ready to go. You can also install the OS directly on the SSD.

Not sure. It may be a bad physical connection to the drive. try taking it out and reinstall. Your computer had an optical drive originally right? Was that drive functioning. Just wondering about the connector itself. Also check the switches on the caddy itself to make sure its set for your Dell. I believe its BC.

Does your 3583 even have a place for one? From what I've seen the 3583 doesn't have an Optical drive slot. Best you could do is upgrade your current Hard Drive to a better or bigger capacity.

If it didn't come with a cd rom drive it probably doesn't have the Optical drive cable either. Plus you will need the little bracket off the back of the cd-rom. It still can be done but you need to research and buy those parts to install as well. Dell customer service may be the best option to either give you the part numbers or sell you the needed parts.

I had one of these once. Cool computer. I liked how it had removable caddy. Excellent Idea replacing CD Drive with a Solid State.
So many saving methods through the years. Lord. The number of ZIP discs I had with CAD files on them back in the early 90s. Much better use of space.
