I don’t know any Blues fans upset about Binnington not getting the Calder. He got his first start in January. Was he the best rookie from the time he joined until the end? Yes. But he didn’t play half the season while Pettersson was great throughout.
Bennington was the only reason the blues made it that far....sure offence wins the game but the saves he made at important parts of the playoffs is the only reason they won the cup congrats blues!
Kid Ranger Binnington was not the only reason the Blues won the cup. He was a big part of it, but not the only reason. Without O’reilly’s all-around amazing play, Without Berube turning the team around, and even without the little guys like Boummester and Parayko’s shutdown defense and the 4th line shutting down opponent’s first line, the Blues wouldn’t have won
A couple of things regarding the Blues's season. 1) Yes, by definition their series win over Winnipeg is considered an upset, but the teams finished with the same point total and the Berube/Binnington version of the Blues clearly played better than Winnipeg in the regular season. 2) I firmly believe a huge part of the Blues winning on the road stems from the fact that they went 2 months (mid January-mid March) without playing back to back games at home. They had 2 cases during that stretch of playing multiple games in a row in other cities (NY & LA), but not in St. Louis. That kind of stretch, especially considering that is when they went on their winning streak and really turned things around, is what prepared them to win on the road in the playoffs.
Unless they expand the playoffs, Binnington's record can never be broken, only tied, which is an amazing feat to realize that a rookie, someone who is literally in their first ever season, just won all 16 games to win the Stanley Cup! That's a lot of pressure on a first year player, and a lot of confidence in him by his coach! I wonder how he's going to be next year, because he can never top his rookie season, only match it with another etching of his name on Lord Stanley!
Interesting that no team in the Central had a losing record. It could be argued perhaps, that the reason some of the teams in the East had elevated records was due to the weakness of their division rivals. The Central seems to have been the toughest division in hockey, or at least the most balanced.
Hey hockey guy love your vids, but I have a quick question. Why do the metropolitan and central divisions get 5 playoff spots while the Atlantic and pacific only get 3?

Hey Shannon, as usual, I dig the video. One friendly suggestion would be to add more of your own analysis and less summarizing of facts that are widely known. I would be interested in more of your analysis because you watch way more games than I do. Who is your most over-rated player? GM? If there were the "Shannon Awards" for various unusual NHL achievements (best breakout Defensive pair, best puck-moving goalie, best at deflections, etc.) who would be on it? The only award I disagree with is the vezina. Bishop was the best goalie. Every stat backs bishop except for wins which is on the back of the lightning being a better TEAM rather than having the best goalie.
I think no matter how many times people tell them, Blues fans will think Binnington got robbed of the Calder Trophy. Sighh...........they'll never learn.
Some years ago Montreal had a baseball team that for whatever reason could not get umpires to call strikes for them, you could see it on TV, even having an Ump die at home plate didn’t change a thing. Who?
@@richardharder6499 Dated joke.
I know that this comment comes nearly a yr and half from this video but i wanted to comment and say that I am willing to bet that the StL Blues would have had a Tampa Bay type season record if they would have played the way they did from the start of the season.
Rasmus Dahlin has a historic season for an 18 yr old he should of been mentioned binnington only played thirty games dahljn was second highest scoring 18 yeR old ever passing bobby orr played 21 mins a night on a bad team had a corsi kf plus 57 9 goals 44 Pts!
Gloria
The only award I disagree with is the vezina. Bishop was the best goalie. Every stat backs bishop except for wins which is on the back of the lightning being a better TEAM rather than having the best goalie.
I think no matter how many times people tell them, Blues fans will think Binnington got robbed of the Calder Trophy.
Sighh...........they'll never learn.
He got a better trophy, and, he might get it next year, like how Ken Dryden won the Cup in 1971, and the Calder, in 1972.
Oh yeah, I remember that season. Now it hurts when I pee.
Oh god spoilers I'm only up to the Islanders expansion
Why out of all songs Gloria? Any song would be better.
Glory --> Gloria... get it?
Stanley Yelnats I’m not butt hurt. I’m saying it’s a bad song.
sibes4 Oh. Thanks for the explanation, I personally think the song sounds bad. But now it makes sense, so all is good.
sibes4 I guess so
@@isaiahwince4261 Self-Control was good.
What about the mark messier trophy ?
Wayne
And the Rocket! Ovi won it for the millionth time.
@@narddog2311 Still only ONE Cup.
Why doesn't NHL hold a short game against the 1st team allstars and the 2nd team. For charity purposes during the preseason.

Too bad as a Blues fan I couldn’t watch most of this run. I had a sinus infection during most of it. Must be karma for dancing to Gloria.
Some years ago Montreal had a baseball team that for whatever reason could not get umpires to call strikes for them, you could see it on TV, even having an Ump die at home plate didn’t change a thing.
If St. Louis did not win because of the missed hand-pass call, the Blues would go the way of the Expos.
ruclips.net/video/YNttKkGtiZc/видео.html
The Expos had problems that went WAY beyond officiating, also, Reds owner Marge Schott was very upset after the game, because the resulting cancellation forced refunds to be paid.
i felt Tampa was gonna choke and i am a fan of them

What is this guys favorite team? Boston or Vancouver?
@@AnX8765 I kind of figured Vancouver since he lives in the area but Boston..must have been awkward in 2011 lol.

The only reason I dont care about the Leafs losing is because the Raptors won
If they keep KL it may continue.
The west teams are better than the east
Leafs always sucked since 1968 ,imagine a sport like basketball that was non existent in Canada ,came to Toronto and they managed to win a championship in there almost 25 to 30 yr history and the most idiotic team in the leafs still and always will be losers ...ps great video
Not to mention two World Series.
