Try cleaning the plate with an old tooth brush and washing up liquid to remove all the bits of paper stuck in the grooves. Thoroughly rinse it and dry with a tea towel rather than a kitchen paper towel. The latter will leave a residue. Use a soft cloth and rub some hand sanitizer into it and it's ready to use.
