They were plenty far enough away to avoid contact. The problem is that steam locomotives are messy critters, often spewing steam, hot water, and even sand and soot. Also, in the case of freight trains, there can be broken steel strapping and shifted loads that can scythe right through a human body. 25 feet is a good minimum distance from any active track.
Cool video and you are so right. That person was really stupid for being so close to the track. And also I don't mean to critique your video. But another thing I don't like is when people zoom in and out very fast when they're filming. It's disdracting just a little constructive criticism.😊
