@@marlennyzhat5022 Kazakhstan gained independence in 1991. The city of Akmola was renamed Astana and became the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997 per the Wikipedia article on Astana. Reasons for moving the capital to Astana from Almaty include trying to make the Russian population in the north of the country feel more a part of the country, earthquakes in the Almaty region, not much more growth space in Almaty, and one that is not talked about but I think probably had something to do with it, lots of new building going on in Astana which always means a source of kickbacks for corruptacrats to get rich on. Where else did Aliya Nazerbayeva get the $300 million she took with her to London when the rioting started in January of 2022? Tomiris was a pretty good movie, but it wasn't that good for the producer's cut of the profits.

Assalamualaikum to the good people of Kazakhstan
Кахахстан очень красивый.
Alma-Ata and now known as Almaty was the Capital until around 1995!, not 1936. Astana only became the Capital AFTER Kazakstan became independent.
1991
