  • First impressions were very positive. The main point was a feeling of confidence due to the snug but very comfortable fit. Trying a surfski on flat water can only provide a limited feel for its capabilities but there are still quite a few characteristics that can be evaluated. There was a gusty wind on the lake which blew at the top of force 4 at times. The bailer worked really well and as expected the rudder gave a quick and positive turn. Second impressions will come from trying the ski in the sea.

Wouldnt leash off back deck bungie its not strong enough. The attachment part at the back is to help rig up an emergency rudder bungie set up, in case steering cord lets go

Agreed, those single attachment points don't seem strong enough. Could attach to the rear carry handle that seems more robust but for the time being happy with my arrangement. Another advantage of my setup is that you can carry the ski with leash already attached and launch.

@@juleskayak Most just attach to the footstrap. Trying to remount with a leash stretched all the way to the back is likely to lead to entanglement around the rudder. The leash needs to be fully reachable, preferably in front of you, while sitting in boat to deal with any tangle issues

Does the bailer work on a Venturi effect ?
I guess it won't sink anyway, you just get a bit wetter than usual !

Yes exactly . On some skis they don't have a flap which opens and shuts, instead a curved constantly open Venturi. No moving parts but if you go very slow or stop the boat will fill. Doesn't fill much though.
