My dad and I used to do these models all the time. We started a new one for Fathers Day. We mostly do airplanes, but now that I'm into ships our next might be a ship. Lets see, we made a Hellcat, F-22, Apache(helicopter but close enough), wright flyer, and I think that's it so far. They are really fun, and we have this whole system for painting the parts.
I lived in Japan for 5 years back in the 80s. My father was USN stationed @ Yokosuka Naval Base. I loved building the Tamiya models as a kid. All the ships were the same scale so you could have a fleet of them with the correct size in relation to each other & they had flat bottoms for easy displaying. The stores off base were selling every class ship that served in WW2. Of course all the instructions were Japanese only but the pictures were enough.
I’ve been using a needle with the end of the eye cut off dipped in the same glue to put just enough here and there. I transferred the glue into an empty glass jar that had some old paint in it. I had the same issue fitting the deck pieces but once they’re in there’s definitely no gap.
@@eamongleeson6700 Yep! The kit includes models of both the "Betty" and "Nell" bombers that sank her. A little jingoistic, don't you think? Or at least the original 80's release of the kit that I built with my Dad did. I'd be interested to know if Mountbatten's kit includes them, he didn't mention them in the vid.
good choice in tamiya, they are much better fit kits over airfix etc, i bought a KGV when i first got into the WOWS. i found an airbrush was a good investment for large models to give the paint a much more flat uniform finish and also save time. i would also advise on your next build invest in a wooden deck from ebay, gives such a nice real look. Good to see a fellow builder
Where I live in Hood country I can find Tamiya paint but I rarely find Tamiya kits so over here we mostly build AirFix and Revell. I’ve got a HMS Hood from Revell that colour instructions and she cost me £15 while I have a Bismarck that cost £30 that is in black and white and that is because the Hood is a very new kit and the Bismarck is quite old. I’ve got a 1:600 Spee and Belfast that are very old AirFix kits. I’ve got a Ark Royal, Graff Zeppelin, Missouri, Scharnhorst, Bismarck and Hood in around 1:700 by Revell. I’ve got a HMS Victory in 1:225, a Flower class in 1:144, a London tug boat in 1:08, a VII C/41 U-boat in 1:350, a Type XXI U-boat in 1:144 that also is a cross section model showing the interior, a HMS Revenge 1:144 (not the battleship but the sailing ship) by Revell. I’ve got ships in 1:1200 the King George, Yamato, Musashi, Hornet and Tirpitz. But I also have the Tamiya waterline series Rodney and King George that are from the 70s from what I could find and they cost me £10 and are my first Tamiya kits they have a metal bar that goes on the inside of the kit to give it a satisfying weight. I also have a Bandai 1:1000 Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 model (from the anime space battleship Yamato) and a Bandai 1:2000 Iowa and Missouri. On top of countless planes by AirFix in 1:72 and planes and tanks from Revell in 1:72 but I also have a 1:24 Hawker Hurricane by AirFix. And I have lots of Gundam models by Bandai.
Loved building these models as kid. Motivated me to become a 3D animator. Downloaded a Tirpitz model recently. Currently changing the UV maps and textures, as well as setting up a scene. Maybe I'll upload some great Tirpitz Wallpapers in a few weeks.
You should check out the uss Missouri model from trumpeter. It's a little pricey but looks fantastic. I'm glad you are showing more content other than games and I'm really into models myself and you should do more of these
Consider getting Tamiya panel line accent color - black and brown. Also did i see (or didnt see) you trying to test fit the deck to the hull before painting? and yes i would love to see more of this build.
i really want to get trumpeters 1/200 bismarck but im kinda hesistant bc of the amount of work but i picked up takoms 1/72 bismarck B turret this will be my next project
Fellow model ship builder! You got other places to follow your builds by chance??? Also you happen to have an airbrush to paint with? If so I have an awesome brand of paints to check into.
I could actually never figure out why the royal navy did not plans to have a slightly larger version on the KGV with 3 Quad 14" guns like the USS Florida. Would be so viable as a battlecruiser at tier 9 due to RN HE shell penetration mechanics.
@@TheStefanskoglund1 I thought there was an escalation clause in the Washington naval treaty that allowed an increase in displacement. Also it would make more sense in scale of economics that having 3 of the same turrets would simplify logistic and repair.
@@shunyuanliang4397 The brittish design which followed the Washington treaty weight limits were the Nelson class. Due to the economy in the 20s the UK couldnt afford building a number of a bigger design. Also they were loath to initiate a new weapons race at sea. If so they had that G3 class battle cruiser design.
Is this just a casual hobby? So many things not being done that would see far better results. Primer is important, masking (get better tape), glue first then prime/paint so that the glue is dry, get a variety of clamps for small part, etc.
My models just sit on my shelve after being complete, so there’s no need for it. The paint on the models that I have from five years ago is still fine today
For a minute I thought there was a new dockyard event.
Yeah got me too
Same
Me too ! lol
Agreed.
@Vanya Secundus same thought process, same ending, sad ship noises

Everytime you unlock a new ship building phase you get to watch SLM building the model version sped up like this. PLEASE WEEG!
You work so much faster when there's music playing. Its amazing!

More model building please, it’s quite entertaining!
Gonna start on my Trumpeter 1/200 USS Arizona soon. Just waiting for the drive parts to show up. (Going to be an rc model)

Enjoy the build! Tamiya's choice to Include the bombers that sank her in the kit always kinda stuck in my throat though...
They did?

I believe three of my distant relatives served on the Prince of Wales and Repulse at the time of their sinking. I believe all of them survived.

I used to love making these models (Airfix) when i was a kid/teen / youngish adult. The last one i made was HMS Hood.
Love PoW. Need a Hood and Repulse to accompany her now.
Aren't they all sitting on the same planets ocean together? They're all in company, just miles apart.
@@matthewfloridaforlife technically, but the little ones aren't on my desk yet.
well, hood is almost there, both my pows is still in their boxes and so is a tiny tiny repulse
Po-dunk Louisiana? That's awesome, I lived in Louisiana for a long time! That's way too cool MB.

to mix a model paint, put it in your pocket and go for a walk

Get yourself the 1/200 trumpeter Hood, immense kit. Gaming and model building my 2 greatest loves, keep up the good content mate!
I just received my 1/350 Missouri too! Enjoy your build sea lord
Great vid Man!!!! Very much like to see the rest of the build !
The model I’m fixing to get and start is the agora model Bismarck in 1:200 scale. Has working spotlights and guns that rotate via a control box

SLB you REALLY need to get into using spray paint techniques. Speed and finish will really make the difference!
I looked over the Yamato 1:350 kit when it came out in the 80s. Couldn't believe the cooling fins on the 25mm guns.
I didn't know Santa had a workshop in the South?
Great video Mountbatten really enjoyed it. I built this kit a few months ago looks great
I actually saw this kit go up on auction and I got the Hood, Arizona, Graf Spee, and Scharnhorst

"Let this *hull* shebang*
lol
Was that Master and Commander playing in the background? If so I approve!! That’s a great film.
Yes it is specifically at the beginning
I finally see the face behind the voice
Love the video, I think more of these videos of building like fletcher or Richelieu would be amazing.
Nice vid very keen to see finished product
This is so much better than WG shenanigans
Look forward to seeing the final product!
Loved the build. Please keep uploading these. I'd be nice if you do the Vittorio Veneto next
Excellent work! Congratulations
Please do more model building especially vessels of ww2 Era just like this one!!
Shaft struts! the braces for the screw.
Properly refered to as "A" Frames they contain Shaft bearings made of Lignum Vatie
Great vid Sea Lord, I've never tried building a large scale warship like this, I prefer smaller scales like 1/1800.
You should really consider using an air brush and primer for painting it looks so much better.
Love your videos; for your next model, use FrogTape instead . You'll find it gives you much cleaner lines.
I just finished that kit a few months back. Getting her paint scheme down was interesting to say the least lol
Yes, let's see some more please.
I’m waiting for my 1/350 Alaska to arrive!
This reminds me... I should really continue building my Kaga.... or Z-39 :/
World of model warships
Your new second channel
🚢
this would make quite a good dockyard for the game 'Build Prince of Wales'
What an oddly satisfying video to watch. Nice job with this one
Nice video and a very cool idea. Btw good choice of movie, I love pirates of the Caribbean 👍🏻
very well build
very good early video building the prince of wales

Did with the bow, and mid section, everything was snug so I assumed the stern would be fine, but I guess not lol
I like this kind of content. Nice.❤️
I like this a nice change up
I’m fixing to purchase and start building the agora models 1:200 Bismarck
i really want to get trumpeters 1/200 bismarck but im kinda hesistant bc of the amount of work but i picked up takoms 1/72 bismarck B turret this will be my next project
Be nice if we had a tier 8 prince of Whales , as a dockyard ship . Don’t think it’ll happen sadly
Oh no, building i can do it just fine. Painting, bruh i suck lmao
Fellow model ship builder! You got other places to follow your builds by chance??? Also you happen to have an airbrush to paint with? If so I have an awesome brand of paints to check into.
Hey Sealord i brought the ITALERI IJN Atago model kit about a year ago i think you should build it it is a WOWS collaboration with ITALERI

Costs ? And weight issues too...

You are old school for the brushes, have you thought of getting an airbrush? :)
Did the mighty jingles not say it was called the boot topper?
try nail polish remover for cleaning brushes

The Thunderer started as a joke Just y’all wait and we will have PoW soon enough
LA boi same as me
building the Z-43 german destroyer myself :p
Will the turrets jam like the real ones?
Love the early video!
But does it float?
So you were on the prince of whales or the Alabama?
Like Danny Gloval once said: I'm too old fot this s..t
Music makes me think I'm playing Megaman
btw why not wanting to say Tamiya with regards to the paint ?
1 word PRIMER

For a moment i thought POW was the new dockyard ship. Had my credit card ready. but no. still watched your build though. Good luck SL
Didn't you prime it first???
The models don’t get handled afterwards so it’s not really necessary
Go check out the flying mule website
moar
Next time just buy red spray paint....
Third comment!
1/700 gang do not approve this build
Imagine having tiny Monopoly pieces sized ships
